XHDATA D-109

JAMET Paul

This receiver is now available ...

I got one and I must say that for 6.50€ I am literally blown away!

Vintage " outside " but DSP inside ...

I'm not the only one who noticed this:From my point of view, the most important innovation – on a DSP receiver of this price – is the possibility of precise tuning when searching for stations with a pointer dial; there is absolutely no play, which allows perfect and stable tuning to the desired frequency ".

Listen to this recording : Radio Slovakia from Kall Krekel: ~350 km ... Power: 1 kW
a with a 7 meter wire antenna

What do you think?

NB: I have no affiliation with XHDATA!

I asked Anna at anon-co.com about this and she said that the D-219 is probably does tune only in 9K steps.

JAMET Paul

It's not true! She has not read or not read carefully the manual!

In the D-109_ENGLISH_Manual.pdf  you can read pages 3 & 4 :

MW frequency selection step interval:  Setting and temperature display synchronous switching

1. Long press the number key (2) for 3 seconds:
When it shows 9 : the medium wave frequency will step to 9KHz. Frequency coverage range:522-1620KHz.(suitable for Asia, Europe.Africa and Oceania)
In this state, the temperature displays Celsius(°C)

2.
When it shows 10 : the medium wave frequency will step to 10KHz. Frequency coverage range:520-1710KHz(suitable for North and South America)
In this state, the temperature displays Fahrenheit(°F)

I do think it's a very promising receiver ... And more, with Bluetooth and SD card ... To be continued ...

I have a recently purchased XHDATA D-386, a later updated version of the D-109.
The tuning scale is no where near accurate. At 10 MHz, OK, rest of dial way out. DSP or not, you get what you pay for. I use mine now used purely for MW & FM, as I know what stations I want . The dial is useless. It is a toy for dilettantes, not a serious radio listeners.

Her comment was about the 219, not the 119.

There is a firmware issue with the early batch of D-109s. Direct input of frequencies above around 17,000 only lets you enter the first four figures. It's been withdrawn from.sale whilst the firmware is updated.

Not sure what you mean by that? The 386 has been around for about a year, it's the 109 which is the new model with digital display.

Just to update you Marc, it does have 1khz when you slow turn the tuning knob.

About the D-109, it is correct that it is not available anymore. I ordered one and received an email from XHDATA yesterday to say there was an issue with the SW tuning input. All those who had already ordered one will get free replacements. The faulty one I ordered is still on its way to me. The email was very apologetic, I think they feel bad about this. The email said all stock has been sent back to the factory. They did not give a date for when they expect the issue to be resolved.

I couldn't agree more with Paul about the D-219! I think the D-219 is really great for such an inexpensive radio. Picks up loads of signals, quite clearly.

I think this radio could be the one that attracts some new SW fans, it is so cheap that it is perfect for those who are interested in the hobby but not quite sure about whether they would like it. Not too much money wasted if they buy it and don't enjoy the hobby, then it is still a great FM and AM radio.

But it is useful even for serious DXers.
You can take this little radio anywhere without fear, hiking, to the beach, up mountains. If you lose it or it breaks on an outdoor excursion a replacement is cheap enough.

I did a long review on my YouTube channel, testing all the bands.

Maybe don't post this on the D-109 thread Andre.

My apologies, I was responding to some of the other posts here about the D-219. The thread seems to meander between discussions of both the new radios.

Thanks Andre

We are on the same wavelenght ...  :-)   D-219 is an incredible and affordable radio receivver

Here attached, a recording of RSI - Radio Slovakia International - French Programme
From Kall Krekel in Germany - Transmitter power: 1 kW - Distance: 350 km as the crow flies

The recording starts with the callsign of Kall Krekel:

Congratulations for the video. I wrote a comment. I also add a link to your video in the comments of my article at this URL:

I am amazed!

See you.

Have you seen?

The D-109 is back on the front page of https://xhdata.com.cn/  website

The problem was quickly resolved, hopefully!

Quickly discover this new receiver which should delight those who like to listen to the Radio and Music with very good sound quality.

There is a 35-minute review of the D-109 from Spain, including teardown, on Youtube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVlCXshdDPI

The teardown is impressive - very clean quality modular construction, RF components in a sealed metal shield, speaker in its own enclosure/baffle, etc. Most of the PC boards are dated December 2022. The MW ferrite is shorter than some would desire (remember the R-108 is not a stellar performer on MW) but he did easily receive a fringe station from across Europe. Would have preferred some more reception tests, but they will come. Seems to have very nice audio. Would also be nice to know whether it suffers form the high audio noise floor as some other recent models.

I've had my D-109 for  few days now and my initial reponse is overwhelmingly positive. Comparing it with my original version D-808 the D-109 seems slightly more sensitive and has slightly fuller audio and its SD card reader allows scanning within tracks which many such players don't. Even though it lacks SSB I've got to say that for the price it seems like it's going to be hard to beat.

Thanks Jay,

The new D-109 has received positive reviews from almost every AM-DXer, and the radio has an unsurpassed "fun factor" with its combination of relatively high fidelity audio into a powerful 5 watt speaker.

Upon initial review of the D-109 I was much like Les Rayburn-- very impressed with its AM-DXing capabilities but desiring a more sensitive loopstick for even greater AM-DXing performance. Although the model is a little tricky for loopstick transplants because of the hash-emitting digital display, eventually I found a new loopstick position which avoids the hash while transforming the model into a dream AM-DXing portable.

Gary,

Asd usual it sure looks impressive...would you be willing to send me one? I will gladly pay all costs assocaited and it would be really intersting tgo see how it compares with more ambitious AM radios.
