1343 khz I think. I picked this up just after 21.00 tonight from Cambridgeshire UK and haven't been able to ID it. My favourite Mediumwave reference online is now being shielded as unsafe via Firefox on my iPad so can't be accessed? It was coming through quite well at times although patchy. I think I found it on my new R-108 at 1343khz but not as good a signal. I'm not suggesting this is a good catch, it's just that I don't know what it is. The voice sounds American I think, and the subject religious. I'm going to attempt to attach a short iPhone clip.

Peter, you're the UK Mediumwave king, any ideas? Or was it something so obvious you're embarrassed to say? 🤭

I can't play your file on my Android tablet, but you need to become familiar with the 9kHz band plan, 1341kHz is the likely frequency.  Spain, Egypt, Kuwait and Iran are possible. see MWlist.org
Will listen soon

Thanks for that Peter, I'll have a look.

You need to check the frequency will a digital radio eg R-108. ThIs sounds like Premier Radio from the UK. Not on 1341

Premier Christian Radio broadcasts on MW 1305, 1332, 1413 and 1566 across Greater London and Surrey. The transmitters are: 1305 from Chingford (north) and Ewell (south), 1413 from Heathrow (west) and Dartford (east), 1332 from Bow (central London) and 1566 from Guildford.

So 1332 from Bow seems likely

Hi Peter
Wow, thanks for that detailed info. This is very interesting because it means I was receiving two distinct stations both transmitting on 1332. I normally get Cambridgeshire Gold on 1332 which is so local and powerful from my position that I'm amazed it allowed Premier through! But I was receiving both of them quite separately on the dial (Roberts 925 Sports analogue version). I did check against my R-108 and that's how I arrived at 1343, although it was too poor a signal to be 100%. All of this tends to tell me that my particular Roberts is exceptionally good at this part of the band, am I right?

Select 9KHz steps on your R-108.
Maybe it wasn't 1332 then if you could separate them on the dial. Maybe 1413

Hi Peter
Having just spent a bit of time experimenting with both these radios I think you're right. Because I was tuning in single kHz steps on the R-108 I wasn't going as far as I thought on the frequency scale, I'll have to make a habit of using the 9kHz step tuning on AM. Lesson learnt. This begs the question how do you find stations like 1010 which isn't on the 9kHz stepping? Do you switch to 10kHz stepping or are you actively seeking a particular station please?

I switch to 10kHz steps and also use direct frequency entry when looking for NAm stations.

Aha, thanks for that Peter!

1-0  for analog tuners, as in the SRF-59, which can centre on the received fequency  :-)

S
yncronous  fine tuning  of my uhdx sony 2010x  serves as a frequency searcher and confirmer.
Some digital receivers allow switching between 9 and 10kHz and bandwidth selection. Joy!

Must needs revive my crysal set with a whopper frame or beverage aerial (oops: antenna...).

I have to say I love tuning with my SRF-59, but I have another question right now, what is the Indian/UK station on 558 please? Because my iPad denies me access to mwlist.org I can only use MEDIUMWAVE.DE which hasn't supplied the answer (I don't think 🤔).

Okay, I've finally found the answer, it Panjab Radio transmitting from somewhere in Middlesex I think. PLUS more good news, I've found that it's my VPN that's in effect been blocking my access to mwlist.org so all I have to do is turn off my VPN when I need to access it, a shame but doable.

Yes, not superultradx from the Subcontinent :-)

And useful to know more  vagaries of VPN, which I plan to cautiously  investigate one day...

There are several South Asian stations in the UK and one in Holland. It is possible to receive India on a portable in the UK. Here is one from my archives.

Thanks Peter, this is all grist to the mill. Initially on listening to your archive recording, I thought how on earth did he decipher this, but then it became slightly more coherent. This was clearly not sitting at home, it sounded more like the seafront? One point of possible interest here is that I found 558 on my R-108 very clearly, but no matter how carefully I tuned there was no indication of it at all on my SRF-59. Just proving to me that the Sihuadon is clearly (no pun intended) more sensitive than the little Sony. One caveat to this possibly is that I was sitting in the comfort of my armchair surrounded by interference which perhaps the Sony is more susceptible to?
