Agreed, Peter, that is usually the best time for TA.

I'm a bit annoyed at myself for not thinking of looking for this last night. Medium wave reception was astonishing down here in Cambridgeshire, and I'm guessing the same for you. It was as though I was living in Spain there were so many stations coming in strong! I eventually lost count but I'm guessing around thirty! It was almost impossible to move the dial without finding another quite extraordinary. I was however using my Panasonic RF-B11 which is a bit outside of ultralight and analogue tuning. I was just enjoying the plethora of stations. How impressed are you with the PL-606 Peter?

Unless you live Canada or the USA then dusk is the best time fo TA reception, not sunrise ;)

@FenDrifter The PL-606 is not the best Tecsun DSP ultralight radio, as there is no direct frequency entry and the manual tuning wheel takes years to master.

Yep, at night RNE comes in like BBC Radio 5. With Italy now dodo,
there is little else  left.   But, with Irish roots, I treasure RTE on 252kHz
alongside part-time RTL on 234kHz.

I get RTE about fifty percent during most days but can't definitely say I've had RTL. I'll try and remember to have a go tonight and let you know. What part of the world are you?

I spent about an hour this morning (2-3 UT) searching very carefully for WINS 1010 but with no luck. I first used my PL-368 but then spent most of the time with my much superior Panasonic RF-B11. Both were used barefoot in the comfort of my bed 😊. My house has an elevation of about three metres, so not the most impressive of locations. I will of course try again.

I could just hear 1010kHz before sunrise this morning, albeit naughtily  on my icf2010.

But what I hear on the icf I can also often better hear "barefoot" on my SONY SRF-59, .
This is worth acquiring, if still available. It is more sensitive than most uldx receivers,
not least as it doesn't generate internal mush from display circuitry. If in doubt
about the  frequency received, I cross-check with the, er,  icf2010 :-)

Nice reception Peter.

The PL-606 and PL-310ET are quite easy to modify so you can connect an external ferrite rod using the spare connection on the antenna jack. When disconnected, it will use the internal ferrite. I modified both of mine to use a 10" rod with separate MW and LW coils, makes a huge difference.

Thanks for the update, and guess what, an SRF-59 popped through the door yesterday! Didn't occur to me to take it to bed with me, but I will tonight. I've just returned home from having my car serviced, and en route took a detour to a quiet road where I stopped with the SRF-59 and a pair of headphones. I got out and moved a few feet from the car and was completely blown away with the quality and power of this little beast, frankly astounding! I only did a quick scan but I'll take a lot more care tonight, and will look forward to doing a daytime search sometime soon. 

I don't know how my PL-660 compares with your ICF-2010 but I'll try using it as a cross reference tonight. I suspect however that reception in my bedroom won't be as good as where I stopped today. I'll update as and when, but I've made it my mission to find this pesky WINS 1010. Peter has started something here!

The point is Michael, that at sunset in the UK,  it is broad daylight in the USA/Canada so good luck getting TA reception. Sunrise in the UK is the best time for TA.
 Sunset on the East coast of the USA/Canada is the best time for TA at that side of the pond, as the rest of their continent is in daylight.
