AM 990 CBW?
James Rohrer
This evening I was able to get a CBN program loud and clear. It was the Tom Power show at about 9-10 PM CDT. Most likely that was from CBW in Winnipeg, 727 miles north of me. But CBY in NL is at the same frequency. 2131 miles. Signal faded before I could hear the call sign. darn. Almost got it but this is not a definite log entry.

Hi James,
Wow! Pretty cool catch!
Hey, do you use the internet to ID stations at all? Sometimes you can match what you hear to the live stream of the station.
I sometimes do that... might not be everyone's preferred methodology... Sometimes waiting for that definitive ID is sometimes tough...

Call letters used to be a station's branding but that hasn't been true
in Canada for some time.

Do CBC stations *ever* say their call letters?

Hi Phil,
I typically try several internet streams of stations that I suspect it may be due to hints dropped in the broadcast, like references to places, stores, etc.
I also record the audio so that I can go back and hear that elusive ID should it "zip by" and I don't catch it.
Most of the time I get the ID during my listening, but on some occasions I have to get "creative" with an internet search.
ID'ing this way may not be everyone's cup of tea however, and I can respect that, but it is a method I have used for my personal logs.
Your tastes may vary...
