Air Band Radio

The VHF Air Band is somewhat of an addiction for me as i live in the Los Angeles area. I couple that with the ability to look in on ADS-B plotters and can follow planes and helicopters navigating this rather complex airspace. Somewhat obvious, but aircraft on the ground are not really heard unless you are at or adjacent ot the airport. Aircraft in the air - around here with the mountains and ducting, i can often hear out to 100 miles with out to 50 miles being the norm.
i had a Grundig G6 that i used to pack in my computer bag and listen to planes while waiting for my flights. Not the best ears for VHF-AM but the radio would fit into my shirtpocket.

While this group (and the Ultralight dxing hobby overall) is focused on the mediumwave band, we have a whole heap of spectrum to listen to.
