What software do other group members use for keeping track of stations you have logged? Do we have a standard program which saves the logs in a format we can share on here? Like Burger King, I have it my way. I have separate tables for LW, MW, HF and FM bands. Also, tables of radio related abbreviations and other radio related information. Before I retired, I spent decades creating and maintaining databases. I guess it is a habit I can’t break. BTW, learning to use Microsoft Access to create flat file databases is not that difficult, and you get to decide how you want to use your data. 73 Gary Vance

Hey. Over the years I have used a few different programs, I started with an Excel spreadsheet, tried a few different "radio" programs, wrote my own and now I am developing an Access database. While this is for my own use, I am happy to share it here for others to use if they want. You don't need Access, the free viewer is enough to open it and use it. I have just spent some time over the past week adding some new options and a way to have all your logs for a single listening session be able to be saved against that session, this is something I have not had the ability to do in the past with any of my programs. For me and my listening / logging process, this will be really helpful. It will also mean that my loggings, which I post to my blog will be in the same format all the time. We don't have any single program which we use on here, we all log in our own way with our own methods and software, maybe this is something we could look at? A common logging file format / data type? I can show you my Michigan Area Radio Enthusiast’s MW Summary excel file. Most of my data is in Microsoft Access. Both are part of the Window’s Office Suite. I like Microsoft Excel for gathering data but for permanent storage and querying, I prefer Access. I will see what I can come up with. 73 Gary Vance

I have all of my DX data in Access, which are easily exported into Excel. Excel is simply inadequate for multiple sorts and creating lists. I suppose that at some point I'll have to abandon Access but since I have no pressing need to migrate to newer versions
of the Office suite, there's no hurry. If I have to migrate backwards to Excel, that can be done, but it will greatly limit what I can do with my data without a lot of tedious subfiles and maintaining multiple sorts of the same data. Those are why I moved
to Access in the first place.

Well … we will see if I am allowed to attach a file in this group. The file I am attaching is an excel file in the xlsx format. If you have an older version of excel this won’t work. If it doesn't work, I will convert it to an xls file. This file contains a list of Medium Wave stations members of the Michigan Area Radio Enthusiast’s reported to the club. I used some of my data tricks to make it easier to query. Also, I added the stations geographical coordinates. The mile and kilometers fields are the distance the stations are to my QTH in those unit. The Bearing° field is the initial bearing from my QTH. If you reside in Spain as I suspect, this information won’t be very useful to you. But, I know a few folks in this group, might find this useful 73 G. if this doesn't work I will use my OneDrive to make it available. Wish me luck.

Yes, it does work Gary. I thin that info cna be also extracted from MWLIST with the appropriate searching tool and then exported as a .csv file. I must try to find an old Access program for my laptop and then try again. Now, I am using Excel but I prefered Access, as you two keep doing! Thank you very much. The file I sent you was gleaned from a simple text file. I used features of both Excel and Access to create what you see. This file is very basic. But it is easy to query by frequency or call letters. The number crunching for the distance and bearing degree columns was done using a separate excel spread sheet one that was designed for that specific purpose. I was using a different database at work when the company I was working for mandated that all employees were to use only components of the Microsoft Office Suite. At first, because it was different, I did not like using Access. But … after a few Access updates and me getting familiar with the software, I began to appreciate how easy it was to use the very powerful tools of the program. Most of the fields have names above them that relate to what they are for. A coupe are more for my own use for some of the projects and challenges I run. Until now I have had one record per station and would update that record each time I heard that station with the date and any notes about it. Recently I have also added a session form and table which I use to log what I hear during each of my DXing sessions, this will be used to keep a better record of what I am hearing, when and where plus notes on locations and so on. This side of it is only new so I will be adding to this and improving it as I go. I already have some ideas of extra fields and details I want to log.
