Introduction
Issac Quincey
Hey. Just heard about this group and wanted to check it out. Keen DX'er since my teenage years, missed the boat with a lot of shortwave stations going off the air before I was really active. Mostly spend my time listening to hams on 80m and 40m. Ultralight radio sounds like fun, will be looking to grab one when I can. Using an Icom R75 at the moment, I don't think that counts as ultralight. Sent with ProtonMail Secure Email. |

Hi Issac, Welcome to our Ultralight Radio group! It's true that your Icon R75 doesn't quite qualify as an Ultralight, but you can get very detailed information about which portables are currently at the top of the line in the pocket radio market, and how they shake out in competitive DXing in the 36-page article at the following link https://dreamcrafts.box.com/s/8y6855bnfmy45rnk46mzr7hb4pwjz8u8 Best of DX to you! Welcome to the group. Where are you from? As Gary posted, that article provides a good reference of what ultralight radios are about on the market. I used to own an R75, good solid radios. On Tue, 4 Jan 2022, 9:48 am Issac Quincey via groups.io, <IssacQuincey=protonmail.com@groups.io> wrote:

Welcome to the group Isaac, I have an R71A, it was free....wish it was at least an R75 though... For other SW, MW and LW I use a ATS 909, Tecsun PL380 with a modified AM antenna, and several palm sized for bare bones MW. I'm working on constructing a SDR w/ an upverter for MW, Rasbi-Pi w/1TB HD. For antennas I have a homemade tunable MW loop, a 2x Slinky for a long wire in the attic, also a Chinese amplified MLA-150. I have a Pa0rdt in the attic, but it deserves to be outside but...I'm in an HOA so no outside antennas. But I plan a bird condo to hide the Pa0rdt. Im working on it! Thank you, the PL330 sounds like it might be a winner. I hope to build my collection as I get more involved in the hobby but for the moment I am starting out basic and will expand on that. Sent with ProtonMail Secure Email.

Did you sell your R75 or did it fail? Mine is starting to show some issues, at times it won't turn on or fails to receive anything. I think I have got a good run out of it but maybe it is time for it to retire. Sent with ProtonMail Secure Email.

I love the R75 but my real love was an R8500, sadly it suffered some damage and while it was fixed, it was never really the same. Sent with ProtonMail Secure Email.

Welcome, Isaac. There's a list of the best according to Group's Master Sensei. But if you have any questions and or doubts about a certain equipment, feel free to ask. Have a great 2022. // pedro andrade On Mon, Jan 3, 2022 at 02:48 PM, Issac Quincey wrote: |

Sold mine to a radio friend locally, last I heard it was still working. At the time I didn't have the time or space to make the best use of it. Paul On Tue, Jan 4, 2022 at 8:22 PM Issac Quincey via groups.io <IssacQuincey=protonmail.com@groups.io> wrote:

That sounds like a really good plan. My collection got a bit out of hand, so I have scaled it back a bit. Paul On Tue, 4 Jan 2022, 8:20 pm Issac Quincey via groups.io, <IssacQuincey=protonmail.com@groups.io> wrote:
