Puyallup, WA Ultralight DU's for 9-7
Hello All,
The all-DU propagation continued here this morning, with Asiatic TP's continuing to be completely dead. Tim Tromp's 738-Tahiti (and other DU) results this morning provided a fair preview of the situation at this location 2 hours later, with 738-Tahiti coming up to fair French audio around 1325 (although not as strong as yesterday). As few other DU signals did their best to come up to audio in this notorious DU-dead zone, with mixed results. The suspect frequencies would indicate New Zealand, but no definite ID's were heard. 657-UnID-DU A trace of music audio around 1312, but couldn't identify genre (Southern Star plays all Christian music)
675-UnID-DU Threshold audio at 1313, but too much local splatter to try for 756 // (which would indicate RNZ)
738-Radio Polynesie Fair French YL audio at 1325; but faded after 5 minute audio reception http://www.mediafire.com/?uuasbukj8qv201u
756-UnID-DU Threshold DU English audio at 1311; suspect RNZ (although that isn't typically very strong on the coast)

Gary:
I listened for 738-Tahiti here in northern Oklahoma this morning. I heard a het and weak music (1133-1159 UTC) but was unable to identify the source because of strong QRM from nearby 740-KRMG. I listened with a PL-310 + 7.5 loop and the 7" FSL. I also heard a weak het on 702 kHz, most likely from 2BL, Melbourne. The het has been noted the last five mornings, best on 9-3. The morning wasn't a wash out however. Later, I logged my 99th new FM station of the summer on a ULR. It was 104.7 KYYI, Burkburnett TX (285km/177mi), heard on a barefoot PL-606, bringing my ULR FM total to 421. Good DX this weekend. Richard. Richard,
Wow, that is pretty thrilling information about the het and weak music on 738 kHz! Nobody has ever received 738-Tahiti,on Ultralights at any location other than the Pacific coast states, to my knowledge. Tim in Michigan and Kaz in Illinois are using slightly more advanced equipment and antennas, it seems :-)
Sorry about the 740-KRMG splatter. Since your home location of Perry is mostly to the west of Tulsa (and a little to the north) about the only suggestion that I could make would be to try putting the razor-sharp null from the FSL antenna on KRMG's signal to reduce the splatter (this is most effectively done outdoors, away from indoor house wiring). KRMG's null bearing from Perry should be about 095 degrees, leaving the optimal FSL reception direction favorable to the South-Southwest (the source of Tahiti's signal). Depending upon how close you can get the null, it might silence the KRMG pest just enough to make the difference.
