Installation of automatic botnet detection software
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
is advisable. Many sites are piggybacked by invisible botnet installers. Downloading a file can give the bad boys access to your PC, which will then be used to disseminate malware, unbeknown to you, and at the same time selling on your IP and/or email address to bulk malware vendors. Botnet detection software will alert you and and enable you to delete the hidden file which would otherwise include you in a botnet. Each one will use some of your resources and may not otherwise inconvenience you, but it will lead to thousands of other PCs being affected and possibly infected. Do not underestimate the botnet threat. The .ru file referred to is being used to install botnet file on PCs which are not sufficiently well protected, but it is easily removed. Not all are so easily deleted. The jpgs linked to below appear safe. Michael UK

Marc,

Botnets invest the targeted website and are independent of the recipient OS. Botnet detection is the only safe way to identify and control them. Some protection programs include botnet detection and eradication, some do not. I also use Linux. Formerly less exposed, it is becoming more vulnerable, as are Mac OS. The bad boys are ever more cunning and prefer you to assume they are out there or cannot affect you... Bonne nuit! Michael UK

Do you know if there are any performance differences between the latest versio of PL-390 vs the newly introduced PL-398MP?

Are the radio circuits/antennas the same? Paul

PCB photos confirm it http://bbs.tecsun.com.cn/0002.asp?open=381870 Antennas are the same

DSP means the same specs One question for me till now - what's Si4734 revision? It's ONLY difference may be All previous Tecsun radios use EOL Si4734 B20 Current Si4734 D60 is much better.

I looked back at the previous posts in this thread, but I can not really figure out what is being said. My guess is that others may be interested but not be able to understand either, but it could just be me.

So is the PL-390 really different as far as receive ability than the later MP and also Blue tooth models? Is there a newer DSP chip which is improved since the PL-390 was introduced? I am still using a pair of CR-1100's, and get a weak and distant FM station very well on them. If a newer DSP chip is even better on FM, that would really be something. AM is nothing special though on the CR-1100's for distant station listening, but the sound is very clear. -FARMERIK [still waiting for the R-2010]

Yes but the question is whether revision D60 is used in the PL-398MP, or

the radio still uses the older version of Si4734. Paul
The revision of the Si4734 is at the moment D60, so yes it is newer than the B20.

I looked into this after register/log-in. There are no specification changes to the chip, and it suggests a modification of coding and options. End Of Life (EOL) for all other upgrades was Nov. 2011.

BTW, there was a recent update to the new SI48xx series using manual tuning. This also did not alter specifications. EOL for the A revision was Dec. 2011. Paul S. in CT

Hello Vimal, I took it for granted that you would look for Documentation, but here is the link to the pdf to make it easy for you. Somewhere in there is an explanation of the revision number and of the date of creation of the chip. http://www.silabs.com/pages/DownloadDoc.aspx?FILEURL=Support%20Documents/TechnicalDocs/Si4730-31-34-35-D60.pdf&src=DocumentationWebPart Arie

Just compare specs (B20 & D60) and you find better specs in FM: - Audio Stereo Separation - Sensitivity in 64-76Mhz - Seek/Tune Time My test on Sangean ATS-909X (D60) against PL-390 (B20) shows real advantage D60 revision in FM Also important change in using more metrics for Tune Even in AM you may find better Audio S/N
