I have
a pair of Sony ear buds with the large diaphragms like the BSRs and they have a
terrific sound with natural bass.

I also have a pair of the Sonys like this. Nice to see DAK. I forgot that Drew got it running again. I have BOTH of the DAK SW radios that came out years ago. They were pretty awful, but for the price at the time, nothing came close. I purchased a pair of Sentry earbuds for my son last year as a funny gift along with a few other gadgets. They were wooden, so I listed them as "Amish Earbuds" on the card. He appreciated the joke, but called me a few weeks later to tell me that they actually sounded very good. I usually have a pretty good ear for audio, and was hoping that he had inherited that. I just found a place in Manhattan that is selling these for $5 a piece. I bought 2 pair to try, and was pleasantly surprised. They sound VERY good for $5 earbuds, and because my cats sometimes like to eat earbuds they seem like a good investment. I picked up 4 more and handed them out to a few more family members who have all expressed their amazement at how good they sound. The cord and strain-relief is a little cheesy looking, but what do you expect for that price? Here is a link to the Sentry page with them. http://www.sentryindustries.com/category/headphones/headphones_ho470.aspFor you East-Coasters they are sold at Jack's World on 32nd street on the 3rd floor. I guess I could pick some up if anyone else wants them. I don't know if the wood has anything to do with the way they sound. This isn't the first time that Sentry has come up with a good-performing bargain though. The problem is that 90% of the line is pretty awful, so it takes some trial and error to find the good ones.

These are similar, and have gotten rave reviews. They look like they roll off of the same assembly line:

also... the best "inexpensive" earbuds I have tried so far is the
SoundMAGIC PL20. Believe it was around the $15 price
point.
If I'm
not at home using my Grado's I usually reach fro the PL20s. SoundMAGIC has
much more expensive models, but I do not
know
if they are incrementally better in sound.

I do not have any BSR earbuds but I really miss
getting the DAK catalogs!
Maybe soneone could get Drew Alan Kaplan to import
Tecsun or Kchibo ULR's to increase their exposure.

If they ever decide to get back in the radio business and carry the Tecsuns, I would buy one.. even if it said DAK on it. I just got a package in the mail from China today and there was no problem. My dealings with Chinese sellers has been positive, but if you get a DOA unit the return shipping is a killer... I would much rather buy a little more local when possible..
