Roberts Sports 995 2-Band PLL Synthesised Personal Stereo Radio
Brian Miller
Has anyone here had any experience with this radio?
Looks like it is only available in the UK or to have it shipped from there. It has about a 4.5 average user rating on amazon.co.uk. (72 reviews). The dimensions are 50x95x20 (mm) so I think it would definitely qualify as a ULR. Looks to have the ability to be set to 9 or 10 kHz steps. Check it out here : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roberts-Sports-2-Band-Synthesised-Personal/dp/tech-data/B000VIA6LE/ref=de_a_smtd

That's the Sangean DT-120W in disguise - not a great performer on MW as I recall: anyone else remember or have one?

Jerry,
A nice looking radio
and unlike most other ultralights one that is available
to UK residents.
The features / size almost match my Aiwa CR-D3 model of the
1990's,
cost £40 ( $65 ) then.

The Eton G8 aka Tecsun PL-300wt (£50) and Sony SRF-59 (£20)are both still available (I have both) via well-known UK retailers Maplin and Comet respectively.

Peter,
Are you saying that Maplin
and Comet both sell Tecsun ????
That would surprise me from my search results.

Michael,
It
was the Tecsun bit that surprised me most.
All the models I have seen mentioned in use are US based.
I have been told Sangean are alleged the
same as Roberts
( though Roberts deny this fact ).

No, I never said that! I said Maplin sell the Eton G8, which is actually a Tecsun PL-300wt, and Comet sell the Sony SRF-59. Clear now? :-) Peter

Roberts are an old, established British Radio manufacturer. These days they don't manufacturer their own radios, they sell re-badged Sangean Radios. Roberts and Sangean are not the same company.

Peter,
I obviously
somehow misinterpreted your comments regarding the Tecsun.
When I was trying to buy a Sangean DT-400W and contacted Roberts about
their
equivalent model, they said they had never heard of Sangean thus could
not offer
a comparison !!!!!
All a bit odd hi!

Hi Brian:

It looks like the Sangean DT-250 is the Euro version of the DT400W: http://www.amazon.co.uk/SANGEAN-SG0033-Sangean-DT-250-pocket/dp/B001F4ZWKS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292862462&sr=1-1 It's silver rather than yellow, has no weather band, and presumably has full 520-1710 coverage when switched to 10 khz spacing. Kevin,
Thank you for the
comments and comparison.
It was an emotive subject for me trying to get a DT-400W after joining
the ultralightdx group
none of the companies I contacted in the US wanted to sell me
one.
Their answers ranged from too expensive to ship to it will not work in
the UK !!!!!
One Canadian company offered me one at $59 plus $79 shipping
hi!
Eventually via the kindness of a group member I had one brought
over by hand from the US.
Along the way Sangean HQ told me sadly they were not allowed to sell in
Europe.
The whole business seemed an odd sales strategy, any way I got one in
the end.
Regards,
72, Brian.
