PL-360 Plug-in Loopstick Mini-Factory Booked Up
Hello All,
When China's Tecsun Company introduced their new PL-360 DSP model with the
plug-in loopstick design, it seemed like a good idea to create a few 7.5"
plug-in loopsticks for non-technical DXers to enjoy, without the need to
perform any radio "surgery" or cabinet disassembly. This has proven true in a
major way, with 25 DXers now having placed orders for the custom loopsticks. It
has been a lot of fun to design these antennas, construct them
and send them out, and I hope that all of you receiving them will have as
much fun as I have had in this project!
After all the current 25 orders are shipped out, serious work will begin on
refining LW-optimized 7.5" plug-in loopsticks for the PL-360 (using the same
mechanical design system), and modifying the PL-380 model to accept these
plug-in loopsticks. Those who have purchased these PL-360 7.5" loopsticks should
find them ideal for transforming the PL-380 into a very effective DX chaser,
once the plug-in design modification is developed and installed. The
combination of a very sensitive 7.5" loopstick and the PL-380's 1 kHz DSP
selectivity should provide excellent chances for Ultralight TA and TP
chasers on both coasts, and even well inland.
Thanks again to all the many DXers who have made this such a fun and
successful project, and best wishes for great DX to you all.

Thanks Farmerik,
Your comments on the 7.5" plug-in loopstick are appreciated, and I'm really
enjoying the entire project. Like you said, it's easy to take these antennas on
a mountain top picnic, through an airport, or anywhere else.
It's true that the PL-360 is a pretty modest receiver, but these 7.5"
loopsticks boost its AM reception up to a very respectable level. I can't wait
to see how they perform in the PL-380, with its 1 kHz DSP filtering,
and preferable soft mute threshold.

Thanks to you Gary, for putting in so many hours on this. It makes my pedestrian PL-360 hear far more signals, and is small enough to bring on a mountain top picnic without my wife even noticing it, until after we eat! - FARMERIK
