Congratulations to Jim Kearman- Cuba DX Centurian Award

Gary DeBock

Hello All,

Jim Kearman of Florida has become the first ULR-DXer to qualify for the Cuba DX Centurian Award (Unlimited Class), for his success in logging at least 100 Cuban stations on an Ultralight radio. Having so many nearby Cubans is perhaps a mixed blessing, but Rob Ross and I certainly wish to congratulate Jim on his patience in logging them, and wish him success in his future DXing.

Thanks again to Gary and Rob, and a tip of the hat to John Bryant. I started on this quest the day John announced the Centurian. I'm sorry he couldn't be here to issue the certificate.

Way to go, Jim. You're definitely the first ULR enthusiast to nail that many Cubans. Like many of us who knew John personally, we feel the same about John not being here. Good luck on your Operation Python.

Congrats Jim! Your accomplishment of logging 100+ Cubans on AM BCB is
probably a first in DX history.

Which proves most DXers have more sense! :)  Thanks, though!

LOL! You succeeded in comparing Cuban stations to lemons: "If life gives you
lemons, make lemonade."

Jim:

Congratulations. I wonder where the Castro brothers find space on the island for so many stations? I'm always amazed I can to hear signals from Cuba here every night. I can't imagine what it would be like living in Florida. Sort of like being next to Texas is here!

Good DX.

Richard.

Thanks, Richard. From the southeast part of the state I've been able to log almost 140 Florida stations. Sixty-percent of my ULR total comes from Cuba and Florida. I try to hear stuff farther away -- really! Never can I say "there's nothing on the radio."

I suppose the Cuban govt tries to cover the band, so their citizens listen to stuff they approve, and nothing else. The programming is generally bland. If I lived there I think I'd be making super-loops and sneaking down to the beach at night.
