Reception of 738-Taiwan on Tecsun PL-310 (DSP Selectivity Option MP3)

Gary DeBock

Hello All,
The new Tecsun PL-310 model was used in actual TP-DXing here this morning, and the 1 kHz DSP selectivity option was found to be competitive in performance with the premium Murata CFJ455K5 IF filters (installed in the modified E100's and SWP's).
Although the TP conditions this morning were nothing to shout about, at 1405 UTC the new 9' PVC box loop here was still able to get a solid "9" signal from 738-Taiwan Fisheries for a demonstration MP3, in which the PL-310's DSP selectivity options are stepped through (from 6 kHz to 1 kHz).
Uploaded to the Ultralightdx sound file site, the MP3 starts with the PL-310 on the 6 kHz selectivity option, having splatter and a loud heterodyne from 740-KCBS. The 4 kHz, 3 kHz, 2 kHz and 1 kHz DSP options are then progressively selected-- finally eliminating the KCBS splatter and heterodyne completely (leaving only the "9" signal Chinese music from Taiwan on the frequency). A similar MP3 of the PL-310 receiving 603-HLSA (with the Chinese co-channel) is also available, for those interested.
The PL-310 does seem to be a very competitive performer in TP-DXing, with good audio for MP3 recordings. In this respect, it would at least equal the Kchibo D96L's 9 kHz-split performance, in my opinion.

I don't know which superlative correctly describes the recording. I will simply use amazing. It would definitely help when trying to hear TA's here in the central US.

Good DX.
