Introduction & 1st post

w2gjw <w2gjw@...>

Greetings everyone. This is my first post to this group.

I've been a MW DX-er for almost 40 years. Living in New Jersey all my
life has made this hobby a real challenge. I have my Grandfather to
thank for getting me started. I still have his 1922 Westinghouse
single tube radio, earphones and his log book!

I've owned my share of receivers over the years; Drakes, Icoms,
Kenwoods, etc. I recently became interested in ULRs through the
DXer.ca site and by reading posts on the National Radio Club's
reflector. I currently own two Sony SRF-59s and recently acquired a
Sangean DT-200VX.

I am continually impressed by how well these radios perform. Their
nulling ability is second to none. I'm looking forward to logging my
first TA station with them, previously I've only done that using my
higher end desktop receivers.

I look forward to reading more of your posts and am interested in
learning more about these radios. I love reading all the great DX
members of this group can pull in using these little gems.

To Gary  (W2GJW),

Thank you for your introductory post, and welcome to our Ultralightdx group.  We are all happy to have you with us, as we face the excitement of our first full pocket radio DXing season.

Good luck on logging your first TA's with the SRF-59, which certainly is possible when propagation peaks occur around sunset (and you can null out some local QRM).  You should have a lot of fun and excitement this season, Gary, and we stand ready to assist in any way possible.  Please also check out the dxer.ca files and mp3 audio recordings, which show what stock pocket radios are capable of accomplishing.  Good luck!

Gary, & et al...

Thanks for all your warm welcomes to this group.

Conditions were fairly good last night. I had hets on 1360, probably
Spain 1359, and also noted a big het on 910, most likely the U.K. on
909 Khz.

I will have more time to spend DXing this evening. I'll report any
TAs I'm able to log with my SRF-59. Hopefully conditions will be good!

73 & good DX to all....
