1280 Canada CFMB 4954km Sony SW7600GR with Tecsun AN-200 loop

The Tecsun AN-200 tuned loop's output socket was connected to the Sony ICF-SW7600GR portable radio's antenna socket by using a stereo audio cable.
The heterodyne whistle was caused by 1278 Bradford UK.

Hi Peter
Can you please explain to the uneducated (me😊) why the stereo cable link?

Peter 1956 <pe1etr@...>

The output  socket on the AN-200 (& AN-100) is a stereo socket, but the ring is not used, just the tip and screen are used. A mono cable would give poorer performance.

Lol. I looked at the link and saw that you said "4945 km" and I
thought, buddy, Delaware is NOT ~5000 km from Montreal.

And it's not - because you are not Peter, the MW DXer from Delaware,
but Peter, the MW DXer from Blackpool! :-D

When I as a kid growing up in Montreal, CJMS was the 1280 signal and
was the big French-language news/full service station and CFMB was on
(I think) 1410 at much lower power.

EXCELLENT catch!!

Sorry to be a pain here Peter, but is there a reason why the output socket is stereo if only ring and sleeve are used please? I'm having difficulty getting my head around this apparently simple thing today.

Peter is a very common name, I didn't  choose it. 😉
BTW I am in Blackpool but not from here.
