Interesting, no-frills radio: there doesn't seem to be much out there on this model, though, regarding performance. Alas, in looking at the Kaito web site, it measures a "massive" 40 cubic inches (it's around 5x7 inches), so a little over twice the max allowed for an Ultralight. Kevin S Bainbridge Island, Wa

This might be old news but new to me, the Kaito KA-212. I saw it on their website. It looks like a digital version of the R-911, WRX911. The case looks really similar. A search found it to be $22.00 + s

The Ben Franklin Bridge on 530 sounds more likely since the Delaware Memorial Bridge has no HAR station that I know of. The website could have very well been drpa.org which is their website.

Took advantage of an off day to spend some time at the PL-310 and got
two new stations 530 UNID HAR station, very weak but gave website as drba.net which is for the Delaware River and Bay Authority and also mentioned something about "westbound lanes" being closed, which would refer to the Delaware Memorial Bridge in New Castle DE. The FCC TIS database is of no real help here. 630 WELJ Scranton PA, 1930 with Phillies-Braves game. A 146-mile catch, usually not easy with WMAL here. Now at 791 ULR stations. -- John Cereghin WDX3IAO KB3LYP Smyrna, Delaware My radio page http://wdx3iao.wordpress.com/ (please note NEW site!) Re: What Type of Blue Glue For FSL & Air PVC Pipe?
Hi Jerry,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
For permanent PVC pipe construction I recommend the Oatey "Rain-R-Shine" PVC Cement (#30891), which costs about $5 here in the USA for 8 fluid ounces (237 ml). This is usually enough to complete a single PVC Loop project. It has pretty stiff fumes, so please be sure to use it outdoors during your loop construction. It also has a dark blue color, and tends to run in interesting streaks outside the PVC fittings when used as directed (which makes Psychedelic drip patterns resembling artwork from the late 60's, unless you wipe it up quickly with a wet rag). The portable PVC Loop designs have some fittings which are designed to be assembled and disassembled repeatedly for field usage-- do not apply glue to these, or your "portable" loop will suddenly become a "fixed" loop! Please note that this PVC glue is flammable, and it is technically illegal to ship it in the USPS postal system (although I once sent a full 8-ounce can of it to Steve Ratzlaff through the mail, and they haven't put either one of us in jail yet). 73, Gary

NW Washington DX for 5-Sep
Kevin Schanilec
Hi all:
After being out of town for a couple days, I got out to the park about an hour before local sunrise, hoping I would concentrate on TP broadcast signals. However, while I had Japanese on 594 (presumed JOAK) and 1566 (presumed HLAZ), TP/DU signals were remarkably absent: just a few weak hets throughout the morning. Fortunately, the beacons were cooperating, and I nabbed 5 more new ones, including a new State - Nevada! 351-NO is recently back on the air, and I believe is the last remaining beacon in Nevada, so I was wondering if I would ever hear a beacon from that state on an ULR: 225 LWG Corvallis, Oregon 351 NO Reno, Nevada 365 DPY Deer Park, Washington 385 OCC Yakutat, Alaska (TWEB broadcast, only possibility) 394 RWO Kodiak, Alaska (TWEB broadcast, only possibility) I finally realized that a light pole in the park, perhaps 30-40 yards away, spits out some serious RF noise on the LW band. It wasn't like that in the spring, so the transformer must be having problems. At any rate, on much of the band, I am limited to a narrow range of bearings, so I may need to rethink where I DX.:-( Kevin S Bainbridge Island, WA Tecsun PL-380, 12" dual-band FSL

A typo on the report I just posted slipped by me until I reread it later. The new sta on 1110 is actually KVTT instead of KVIT as earlier reported.

Four New Stations Logged Tonight
Kirk
When I began tonight's DXing session around SS, I'd never have guessed FOUR new stations would find their way here, ha ha. I havew a very BIG THANKS to Richard Allen for his recenrt tips which has helped me find a pretty good number of new stations in the past few months. These new stations were logged on both the Eton E-100 Slider and the Sony T-615. No Select-a-Tenna was necessary at all tonight.
Before I list the newest stations, I also hrd the Caribbean Beacon (Anguilla) this eve on 1610 kHz for the first time this season. So if you've not hrd them yet, it might be worth checking out before too long. Their sig was fair to weak, but still fairly copiable. They gave a bilingual ID that was copiable. A VERY hearty THANKS to Richard for helping me solve the 1110 UNID sta I reported last week that was carrying Asian sounding mx. Details below: 1110, KVIT, Mineral Wells, TX, 0530 UTC, 9/5/11, when RA informed me about this stations possible ID, I tuned in their onlline stream, and sure enough. No problem confirming the //. Sig was weak, but gets much better around SR. They ID as "Radio Azad." This sta airs mostly subcontintal "stuff" and broadcasts in Hindi, Urdu (and I suspect they might throw in some Punjabi as well. Sta #793- 1390, KHOB, Hobbs, NM, 0515 UTC, 9/5/11, this one was in and out for only brief periods . I did get quite lucky to catch their call letter ID. Sxtlk mostly. Sta #794- 1390, XETY, Tecoman, Colima, 0530 UTC, 9/5/11, fair sig at best playing mostly pop mx. Frequent "Los Quarenta Principales" IDs. //online stream. Sta #795, LAm #163- 760, XEEB, Ciu. Obregon, CH, 0603 UTC, 9/5/11, again this logging was tnx to A tip from Richard Allem. Talk abt some good timing. Within seconds after tuning in this station, a male ancr gave a full call ltr ID which was 100% copiable. No sign at all of XEABC or XEES which are two of the more 'regulars' hee. Sta #796, LAm #164- It looks like the final countdown is underway here for that 800 station goal. Rob, I don't have a clue as to how you could hear 8000 stations i such a very short time. Were you eating, and sleeping, and working during that time, ha ha ha. If so, you must have a big red cape and a monogrammed muscle shirt. I hope everyone has a good week. These three nights off have FLOWN by. One good thing here in northern OK is we have FINALLY received a major break in the extreme heat we've pretty much had for the last 3 months. I actually wore a windbreaker and jeans this evening. 73 for now! Kirk Allen Ponca City, OK

Hi, Newfoundland,America's Wharf End !
Funny how you get more Iran channels than me who
suffers from so many QRM's in Europe.
Even tiny MDR is a pain in the ear, when I want to
listen to 1188 khz !
I have tried Sawa-1431 khz in the past 3 evenings but it
does not come thru, even on the heavy gear (Icom R75 + Active loop); I notice
you don't often get Turkey, same here, that's a disppointment coz their music is
great usually.
Anyway i think there's a Turkish radio in London on 1584
khz.
Cheers

Iran
patrice.privat
Hi
In the past 2 weeks, my ULR (Tecsun PL-380) has taken me
to Iran on 3 channels :
Tabriz 1026 khz
Bushehr 1503 khz
Ardabil 1512 khz
Last night I discovered 2 new ones :
> Qom 1071 khz
> Tehran 1188 khz.
Be prepared for long fadings, but the music is
outstanding on 1071.
Surprisingly,I never get Turkey on MW which is on the
same path.

New loggings with new PL-210
Rick Robinson <w4dst@...>
I received my new PL-210 this week and was awarded with 2 new ULR logs, one a new one overall, one a new ULR logging. Both were logged barefoot.
9-1-11 1800 EDT 1490 WITA Knoxville, TN, religious programming " ... on 14-90 WITA Knoxville Tennessee". New overall logging. 9-3-11 2115 EDT 1540 ZNS Nassau, Bahama Islands, religious programming, female preacher with gospel hymns. // to live internet audio. This is a new logging with a ULR and is somewhat early in the season for ZNS to be dominating the frequency over CHIN and KXEL here in the SW NC mountains. Barefoot the PL-210 is the most sensitive of all my ULRs and the selectivity is about the same as the 3 kHz filter in the Si4734 based Tecsuns. Using 1490 WPCI in Greenville, SC, as a daytime measure of sensitivity, the PL-210 is the best of my PL-310 and 2 PL-380s. SW is a touch better on the PL-210 but on FM the Tecsuns just can't be beat. Thanks for the idea. I am sure I can find something that will work if I can't get the spec material. Gary said the noodle had the correct hole, density, and stiffness for his design. I just wanted to follow the design if at all possible. Knowing Gary's methodology, I think he probably tried a few things before he got to this recommendation. Thanks again, Phil
