Ultralight Longwave DX-- LWBC and Alaskan NDB Opening
Hello All,
It was a mediocre morning for medium wave TP's, but three Radio Rossi Longwave TP's (189, 234 and 279 kHz) made it through with poor-fair signals, and there was again threshold audio (female-voiced news after 1300) on 164-Mongolia, // 4895 kHz (equally weak). A few Alaskan NDB's made their first October appearance here this morning, although none were new. 219-GAV Gustavus Fair-good at 1255 266-ICK Annette Island Good at 1245. mixing with VR 385-OCC Yakutat Fair w/TWEB weather report & ID's, 1300 391-EEF Sisters Island Good at 1305, all alone 394-RWO Kodiak (presumed) poor level TWEB broadcast, 1258 73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) "G" Longwave loopstick PL-380 + new 12" Longwave FSL (photo at http://www.mediafire.com/i/?0f1qq4awtt8mlp5 )

Maybe he listens on analog TV channel 6 (87-something mHz) in a country that still has analog tv? I used to do that (in the U.S.) with my radios that covered the lower part of the FM band. Even had at least one car radio that went that low. 73, Keith B. From: pe1etr To: ultralightdx@... You're right, I told my wife I thought it should have been one of the "prison radio" versions. You've piqued my interest....how do you watch House on your PL-310 or am I missing something simple?

I saw that too. Good (though not stereo) radio, good program, good actor/director. I was surprised it wasn't a transparent institutional version, though.

Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-4
Hello All,
Longwave broadcast was back in strength this morning with Radio Rossii good on 189, 234 and 279 kHz, and fair on 153 and 180. 164-Mongolia had weak female-voiced news after 1300 UTC, which I was finally able to confirm with the equally weak 4895 kHz SW parallel on an ICF-2010 for a new Longwave TP here (209-Mongolia was received last month). After the 1575 kHz mystery yesterday this morning's TP conditions here didn't allow much investigation, as the audio was weak at best. The Japanese big guns (594, 747, 774 and 828 kHz) were doing well, and 738-BEL2 (Taiwan Fisheries) had decent strength but the same transmitter issues, with a raspy carrier and throbbing hum on its audio. A puzzle was a completely pure sine wave carrier on 657 kHz from the Asian direction, meaning either that Pyongyang was off the air, or that its transmitter has been fixed (highly unlikely, it would seem). 936-Anhui, 972-HLCA and the 1053 Jammer were also decent at times here this morning, but not at steady levels. In general it seemed like a fairly average TP session on MW here. 73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) Tecsun PL-380 Ultralight + new 12" Longwave FSL http://www.mediafire.com/i/?0f1qq4awtt8mlp5 8" MW "DXpedition" FSL (for MW loggings) http://www.mediafire.com/i/?h6u1ldaxsuu1d33

Updates to Ultralight Firsts and Records Lists
Hello All,
There have been some exciting breakthroughs in Ultralight radio DXing results recently, including several new distance records for certain transmitter power levels, and new DX countries received on Ultralight radios for the first time in North America. Our most prolific Ultralight radio transoceanic DXer (Allen Willie of Newfoundland) is preparing an update of both the Ultralight Firsts and Records Lists, so if you have received any exceptional DX recently that qualifies as an Ultralight radio "first" (new DX country received for the first time in North America, first transoceanic reception of certain continents from a specific location, etc.) or "record" (a record-breaking distance for specific transmitter power levels, or for certain propagation paths, etc.), please forward your details to Allen at vo1_001_swl@... . The current Ultralight First and Records Lists are posted on both DXer.Ca, and the Ultralightdx Yahoo file site. Please note that these Lists are currently limited to Medium Wave loggings, although we are all aware that many new ULR countries have been received on Longwave recently from North America (on both coasts). The new ULR Longwave Awards program is still being organized, so until the program is up and running, please keep accurate records of your ULR Longwave DX loggings (both LWBC and NDB) until further notice. 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA)

SRF-59 showcased in season opener of House
Antonios Kekalos <akekalos@...>
Anyone happening to be watching the season opener of House? He's in prison, waiting for his parole in 5 days. One of the other convicts says he wants House's "stereo and headphones" which turns out to be a Sony SRF-59. The little wonder radio has made it to the big time!

Monday Morning DX
Kirk
This is the second try at posting this message here on the group. Hopefully this one will take. Last week I bought new batteries for the Sony T-615, so this week I hope to give that little radio a good work-out. This morning was great for starters. Two new station were captured by the little rig.
910, WPFB, Middleton, OH, 1135 UTC, 10/3/11, tuned in to local ads, one ment'd Cincinnati. ID of sorts hrd 1139, "WPFB....radio in Cincinnati..." . Minimal copy and was only discernable for a few minutes. 990, XEER, Ciu. Cuauhtemoc, CH, 1230 UTC, 10/3/11, playing mostly pop styled mx. Lcl ads w numerous Chihuahua mentions. Announcing a slogan I couldn't quite copy, "...nuevo setenta." Mentions of "Romantica nueve noventa" and one "Radio Lobo" ID copied just before fade out 1255 UTC. From 1240 or so, there was another XE in there that sure sounded like one of the Baja stations. I suspect it was XECL...they were playing some pretty good rock and roll jams. I hrd a few ments of Baja California, but nothing like an ID was copied before they faded out. I hope everyone has a good week. 73 from northern Oklahoma, Kirk Allen Ponca City, OK

Ultralight CLE147 Final (Puyallup, WA)
Hello All,
Despite modest conditions 5 new stations were logged here during this CLE on the Tecsun PL-380 Ultralight, assisted by a 12" diameter Ferrite Sleeve Loop antenna. Conditions were good to Canada on the last day, but despite detailed efforts there was no reception of Hawaiian 332-POA (previously heard here on Ultralights, but requiring special propagation to get through the 332 maze of daytimers LBH and WC). Thanks to Brian again for his excellent CLE organizational efforts.
