Great concept. Radio firmware is “Beta”, no manual frequency adjust implemented “yet”, ALL band setting says “TUDO” <Portuguese>, RDS display is tiny and in red, hard to read. A sketch is available but not supported. Buyer beware.

Just be careful not to fall into the trap of trying to choose any one radio as the best or most popular. No radio is perfect...they each have strengths and weaknesses. The key is to find which one most suits your personal preferences and modes of use. I consider radios to be like tools in a tool box...you don't want a wrench when you need a screwdriver. As a long time collector/reviewer I have way too many radios but would be hard pressed to pick one as my favorite.

Additional: I continue to play with my new toy, still finding new stuff. Got my first SSB hit this morning, for anyone who might be interested I did a bit of recording on my iPhone. I was very happy with this catch! Any comments appreciated.

For any Skywave users out there, can I ask does it have the hellishly annoying soft mute manual tuning please? Even though I know my Tecsun PL-330 is a great set, I’ve almost stopped using it for that reason. It’s also why I find the the older Etón E-5 that I’ve just bought, so attractive.

I just checked the Jaycar site and they’re listed as out of stock, so I don’t think I’ll pursue it any further.

I would use mine with earphones 95% of the time, these sound fairly good.

I have a TEAC PR130 as my backup and a couple of analogue tuning smaller radios which I do use at times, more than anything for a bit of a challenge.

I feared as much. There just might be a UK retailer online somewhere.
Otherwise you might check for any pitfalls when ordering directly from Oz.

I ordered my 1733 via the digitech UK website some years back.
It came directly from down-under with no problem.

It is a good radio, comparable to the PL380.

Wow, thank you one and all for the amazing replies.
I like all the positive feedback on the PL380 so I think I will order that model. Everybody sounds like they like that one.

For all the reasons mentioned above and previously, I find it just a pleasure to use.

I would echo Paul's comments that the CC Skywave is a good little unit. It's compact size makes it a good travel receiver. When I am in Newfoundland, I use it as a bedside receiver with any any antenna - no longwire, no inductively coupled loop, no monstrous FSL) and I can listen to the UK, Spain, Romania and others from inside the house in spite of the shielding that the house provides.

I havent been following this discussion too closely.. but over the years I've tried a bunch of radios.. and if youre after AM DX then the CCrane skywave is the best. It's pretty hot with no external antenna. Couple a loop to it and its amazing (Google "Alaska radio nerd" !)

It also has SW too which is good

The audio is good.

The only portable I buy now is the CCRane Skywave non SSB model
