Alaska TP DX Fri Sept 10th

Ok, so I *had* said I would wait till October, but i woke up a bit before 6am, and would've only had another hour to lay in bed.. so I got up and rushed outside and was rewarded nicely. Here's A3Z 1017kHz Nukualofa, Tonga at 1421UTC with a nice signal and some good, clear island music: Here's 4TAB 1008kHz Brisbane wuth some racing play by play at 1500UTC: Here's 4BC 1116kHz at 1517UTC with a nice loud peak of speech about the Covid 19 vaccine: Here's MAgic Talk 1107kHz Tauranga, NZ with Labell's "Lady Marmalade" at 1520UTC: Paul Walker CC Skywave and 5" DeBock FSL

Yes I do keep an ear out for anything like this, which might help me to snag other stations. Paul

Best of luck with your DXing adventures Paul, I love reading about your We are just coming out of winter here, so while the results might not be as good in the coming months, the comfort factor of being able to DX as the weather warms up makes it easier. Paul from Tasmania.

Re: [irca] Getting ready to chase transpolar DX
Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I should add, i'll DX just do it at night.. its more tolerable for me to be out at 1030 at night dxing then 530 in the morning. Starting in october, ill do mornings only and will stay that way till it gets dark enough early enough sometime in november for me to do both morning and evening dx (its dark by 4pm here in December, we lost 3 total hours of daylight a month, about 90 minutes of sunrise and 90 minutes of sunset)

Getting ready to chase transpolar DX
Paul B. Walker, Jr.
A few quick tests have showed me that I should wait till early October to start early morning Dxing because A.) It's too damn early to be getting up before the sun rises this month B.) Two brief tests showed nothing out of the ordinary in the way of tp signals, with just the usual Asians, albeit fairly well. I've got two FSL antennas, two CCrane Skywaves, and 2 XHDATA808's, plenty of batteries, plenty of hand warmers, and cables.. plus just about anything else i'd need Paul Walker just east of gods creation nowhere aka McGrath, Alaska

Re: Spain on MW, a few remarks.
patrice.privat
Muchas Gracias por tu ayuda, Jorge.
DX will still be easier in the evening for a few weeks to come, but soon the morning local slots will be in the dark too and we'll have two harvests per day. I had a new one this morning but not Ultralight (a RTL SDR dongle and an indoor Wellbrook loop ). SER Oviedo was still good at 0725 local with mentions of Verdi's Nabucco being performed at Oviedo Opera if I understood correctly. Frequency was 1026. I have withdrawn from my historical log the 10 dead stations (list follows). So I'm now at 87 stations logged (95% in Ultralight) which leaves me 86 more to catch, as my own study shows a total of 173 stations audible in 2021. Silent stations on MW 1602 Radio Euzkadi,Vitoria, E, Spanish
1485 Punto Radio, Villanova i Geltru E, Spanish
1476 Euzkadi Irratia,San Sebastian,E,Basque
1386 Euzkadi Irratia,Bilbao,E,Basque
1269 COPE Girona ,E,Spanish
1197 Euzkadi Irratia,Vitoria,E,Basque
963 Radio Euzkadi,San Sebastian,E,Spanish
882 COM Radio, Barcelona, E, Catalan
819 Radio Euzkadi San Sebastian,E,Spanish

Re: New Radio
DX Pedro
Radiwow.com would be the best place since they have a US based warehouse. I purchased a radio from their Aliexpress shop it was really good. A fellow dxer bought a D808 from their website and everything went smoothly. 73s // pedro andrade

Re: Spain on MW, a few remarks.
Hi Patrice and Gary,
The Spanish MW panorama is a recurring issue in MW Dxing forums from time to time. I reckon that a MW network cannot be seen just as a DXing pest avoiding to catch far away stations, but this is another vision not to be dealed here now. 😉 Working all Spanish provinces on MW is a real challenge for the serious DXer. That's the reason why implemented the Challenge "IBERIA en OM" award at the IberiaDX group. The challenge includes the Spanish provinces, Portuguese districts, and the radiocountries involved with both countries as Ceuta, Melilla, the Canaries, Azores and Madeira, plus Gibraltar and Andorra. Rules and examples of how to record IDs can be checked at https://iberiadx.wordpress.com/el-reto-iberia-en-om/ Written in Spanish, I will translate it into English later today (try Google translator in the meantime). I did not know that Gary and folks never got Spanish MW signals when they were at DXPs and that shows it is still a real challenge. I am writing a full article on how to DX Spanish stations giving tips and clues to get the elusive stations. I will also provide a detailed chart with local and regional slots including local advertisements, very useful for a rewarding DX chasing. A similar chart as the image that I am adding here (CEST time showed). ¡ Saludos y buen DX!

Re: New Radio
keith beesley
Frank, Your safest bet, if you are in the U.S., would be to order from a U.S. seller. C.Crane has a good reputation for standing behind their products. I have ordered many radios direct from China in the past and have not had any problems, but I've heard stories of people having problems returning defective items. On the other hand, I have the XHDATA D-808 and like it quite a bit; I got mine secondhand from a U.S. seller. Keith Beesley

After the issues with my previous radio, I am now in the market for a new ultralight radio.
I have read some reviews and after looking at these, I am thinking the Radiwow R108 sounds like the best bet. Where would be the safest palce to order from? I had issues with the return of my last radio so want to both know I am getting a good radio and that the service from the dealer will be good.
My other option is one of the CCrane radios, would these be a safer bet?
