I have been known to use the term, but combined with high, as in "High Zoot". I used it to mean advanced/good. or the like.

1125 RNE-R5 Todonoticias Álava from Vitoria. RN is one of the Spanish Public National Radio channels (RN de Radio Nacional de España RNE). The second one, mainly focused on news and cultural short programs, is Radio 5 (R5 de Radio Nacional de España RNE) .
From Vitoria, RNE-RN ID will be 'Radio Nacional de España Euskadi' with regional news, and RNE-R5 ID 'Radio 5 Todonoticias Álava' with local news.

Since moving house I have got this radio back out and have spent some more time really getting to know it.
One thing I have noticed on FM is that it has a noticeable "drift", over the period of an hour or so it required a retune every so often. I will be checking to see if the AM band suffers the same issue.

Last night I focused on the FM band, so far the results are not much different to my old location except the three low power FM translators don't come in very well. This I will be spending some more time focusing on.

My latest challenge is to pick a part of the band (last night was 1503kHz to 1602kHz) and see what stations I can log. I will be working my way down the band in 100kHz segments.

That is a really good point and something I will need to look into more.

Our power lines run down the other side of the house so that is a bonus, we have all the same appliances but do have a new heat pump and dish washer so might need to check if they are having any impact.

I should probably leave it to the poster who used the word to explain, but I found it interesting and did some digging. Zoot originally described a suit worn mainly by blacks and latin Americans back in the early 1940s (when I was born). Very long jackets and wide legged pants with tight cuffs. But it now seems to be used as a description of a hot and sexy female. So I take it that it means a pretty good, and attractive, radio in this case.

Is there a difference in RFI...is there more or less noise at the new house? I moved last year form a house built in 1993 to a new house and there is more noise in some areas of the new house. I had to seek out spots where reception is best. The noise is not always apparent as noise as much as a desensitization of the receivers. As I move to lower noise areas the signals emerge more clearly. My point is that it was not immediately apparent that noise was an issue because it was not the usual buzz we often associate with RFI.

I used for very long away a Sennheiser m@h40 for my old Icom R75 but on my newer PC - SDR i use the HD497 that has a relatively trebly headphone that suits better to the bassy sounded laptop minimizing irritation

Well so far it is a mixed bag. NZ stations are a little better in general but this is traded off by a noticeable drop from some of the Victorian stations, especially when listening during the day via groundwave.

Of a night time, I have noticed an improvement of SA and WA stations.
