Dave,

My guess is that you are not a member of the ultralightdx group and, possibly that you did not reread the Official Rules for the Fall Follies.  The Rules on time are very clear. I try to copy the irca list on important ultralight business, but I failed to do so when I responded to Kirk Allen's question about 8 hours aggregate vs. 4 hours aggregate.  Here is a copy of my message from ultralightdx.

Sorry for the confusion:

Hi Guys,
I'm a bit confused on the rule for the most stations heard. In the
pdf file I saved from dxer.ca, the rules say a total listening time
of 4 hours, but this posting states 8 hours. Maybe I missed
something, but could one of you guys help clarify this for me?
Thanks. I hope everyone enjoys the competition.

Oh, DANG IT ALL!!!  The official rules govern, of course. Its four hours, to be broken in a maximum of 8 segments, each a minimum of 30 minutes and my failing brain just mushed all of that together, DANG IT!

*****4 hours*****

Thanks to Eagle Eye Kirk Allen for spotting my error. Sorry for the confusion.

John Bryant!

John and all;

I had asked this question on dxer.ca ULR forum but no replies, save for
Colin's.

I *thought* that I understood the Fall Follies contest but something
that I read the other day has clouded my vision of it.

I was under the impression that for the total stations heard contests,
you could listen for up to four hours, with up to 8 periods. After
reading a note from John Bryant (on the IRCA reflector), I see 8 hours
mentioned. I must have missed something. Can someone clarify?

***from John Bryant: Two of the contests (the most stations heard within
an aggregate eight hours of DXing, Barefoot or Unlimited Classes,
require a fair amount of time (at least 8 hours at he dials.)

***********************************

***From the contest rules on dxer.ca: but the total listening time shall
not exceed 4 hours and no session shall be less than 30 minutes of
continuous DXing.

Thanks for any clarifications. I appreciate the efforts!

PS: I have not started contesting yet - not due to the question above
but due to time constraints.  I predict that the band will die, when I
start. dh

Actually no I was listening to the E-100 barefoot. With those really
jammed up frequencies, sometimes it seems the Select-a-Tenna only
makes reception even tougher. Be sure to read the article posted on
dxer.ca regarding the use of passive antennas/antennae. I hope the
author of this very interesting and informative article will forgive
me...I cannot remember who wrote it. I need to read it again to help
absorb more of the article.
Later, amigo.

Hi Ray:

The SW-12 is indeed an Ultralight. After some help from Paul in Bellevue,
it's available and under $100, and meets the rest of the criteria, so it
meets all the criteria. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on

Congrats,

1400, WSPG, Spartenburg, SC, 0031-0100 UTC, 10/26. ESPN pgm'g til
ID
0100. Very lucky to catch this one because the freq was really
jammed
up. This was the only station that faded up enough to even have a
chance at copying.

600, UNIDs, 0410-0430, 10/26. Two UNID stations here airing the
same
talk show format network (not sure which one). WMT, Cedar Rapids,
IA
was audible also. The two unknowns were fading up and down at about
the same times creating a very loud echo effect during their peaks.
Can't find any 2 stations on this freq that carry the same talk

New State Last Night and UNIDs

Not an overwhelming amount of luck last night, BUT I did manage to log
a new state (#27) on the E-100.

1400, WSPG, Spartenburg, SC, 0031-0100 UT, 10/26. Carrying ESPN net
pgm'g til ID at 0100. This logging was pure luck. The freq was terribly
jammed up. This sta was the only one that faded up above the garbled
mess.

600, UNIDs, 0410-0430 UT, 10/26. WMT, Cedar Rapids, IA was in here but
there were two other stations that would fade up around the same time.
They were carrying the same programming which was one of the talk radio
nets. This created a very loud echo effect during their fade ups. I
couldn't find any listings for 2 stations on this freq carrying the
same talk show network. Any ideas?
