Tim,

I frequently hear WKDV Manassa VA in Spanish - they are 5kW day & night power, so that's a good possibility for you. They often ID at the top of the hour, if you can catch it.

 Tim,

As Brett mentioned that station you heard on 1460 in Spanish is highly likely to be WKDV . I wondered myself for quite a while what it was,  also hearing it here in the North Atlantic, like you I;ve heard  it here quite often early morning around sunrise also . They mention "La Caliente" quite often  so that will be a clue  for you.

who is SS on 1460??

Tim Davisson

Can anybody tell me who is the station on 1460 with Spanish language
programming?

Have heard it at sunrise/sunset a bunch of times...often dominant on
the frequency, but just can't catch the calls or even a city in any
commercials.

I live in northeastern Ohio...so it's probably within 500 miles, I'd
guess.

Anybody have a guess? Rob in Ontario? Anybody who lives on the east
coast/midwest who might have an idea?

Thanks.

size sangeon dt-400 vs sony srf-59

starship20012001 <norbert_1226@...>

how much bigger is the DT-400 (the yellow one) VS the sony srf-59.
also how bad is the selectivity vs srf-59 i have a couple strong
locals.

new loggings of late

Tim Davisson

Hi again guys.....Here's a few new ulr loggings from my SRF-59
barefoot, and unmodified (dates & times are EDT):

Thurs. 9/25/08 860 WOAY/Oak Hill, WV, 7:00am legal ID.
" " 1270 WMKT/Charlevoix, MI, 8:00pm legal ID, over WXYT
-Detroit on same frequency.
Fri. 9/26/08 870 WPWT/Colonial Hts., TN, 7:24pm, talk.
" " 820 WTOP/Frederick, MD, 6:56pm w/Nationals baseball.
Sun. 9/27/08 1660 WFNA/Charlotte, NC, 7:13am, ESPN network.

Did not include the obvious fairly easy ones...50kwers less than 750
miles away and regionals and locals that are really close by, unless
heard by nulling a local station on the same frequency.

Gotta say a huge thanks once again to Colin and Gary and everybody
involved in promoting this ultralight radio phenomenon. I'd been a
BCB/medium-wave DXer since the early 1960s, but in the past 25 years
had gotten really bored.

It's pretty easy to DX with expensive tabletop equipment and great
antennas...but, with a pocket sized, battery powered radio that fits
in your shirt pocket? Now, THAT'S an accomplishment!

We here in the US midwest don't often get TA's or TP's like folks on
the coasts (I'm jealous!), but there's still lots to hear.

Opps...did fall "off the UL wagon" this morning with a brief ham
radio CW QSO on 40 meters with a guy in Nicaragua....amazingly after
all these years as a ham, a new country worked for me. Hope I get
his QSL card. Gotta keep up my CW skills, despite my time on ULR.

Am still toying with the idea of spending $75 (total) to buy a
Sangean DT400W.

Have a great rest-of-the-weekend guys.

 Hi Everyone,

With the  reports of Alberta stations  ( 960 ) Calgary and (1260 ) Edmonton being heard lately as far east as Prince Edward Island on other sites, I've been keeping an ear open  for them also .

Residing in Alberta previously  for 48 of my years, it would be a great catch from here  and my 8th province logged on ULR. Hopefully everyone else will have a chance to log it also.

I did manage to hear a new one early this morning as follows:

990 khz - CBW - Winnipeg, Manitoba   8:00 UTC  9/28/08 w/ CBC  News, talk by woman , mention of CBC then into CBC Overnight ; fair  at times
( heard under CBY Cornerbrook, Newfoundland , also a CBC station ) *** NEW *** on ULR

That's Station # 360 on ULR's now  of which exactly half  (180 ) are Transatlantics heard.

7.5" Slider Loopstick E100 Photos

Gary DeBock

Hello Guys,

Photos of the new modified E100 Slider-loopstick model have been uploaded to the Yahoo Group site.  Designed by three Washington state tinkerers (John Bryant, Guy Atkins and me) this summer, this tiny overachiever has already received 42 TP's for me this season.  The photos are of my PVC frame model designed for hand-held portability, although John Bryant has also designed a plywood-frame model suitable for table use.  Guy Atkins suggested the Murata CFJ455K5 IF filter, which has provided razor-sharp selectivity for any mission.  Details on this innovative compact DX model will appear in the AM-DX club bulletins soon.

Wonderful on the Mauritania and Mexico logs Paul ! I've tried myself for Mauritania from here a time or two. It seems to be there on my other rig but so far nothing strong enough to log any definite details  on ULR's yet here . Maybe the ongoing and upcoming  good seasonal conditions will change that  for me. !

DX opportunities !!!

Okay, this morning (9/27/08) I heard this same station with religious
programs from 1024-1105 UTC. It turned out to be XEPQ all along, so my
tentative Yucatan logging please disregard. I'm only hearing their ID
following the playing of their NA at 1100.

Loggings on 730 khz

Kirk Allen <kirk74601@...>

Hello from the flatlands of Oklahoma,

Early this morning I logged two different stations from Mexico on 730.
The one I hrd a definite ID from was XEPQ, Ciu. Muzquiz, CO following
their NA at 1100. The other one I have to call tentative at this point.
I really think it was XEPET, Yucatan from 1058-1100 UTC. They were
definitely speaking an Indian language in what I presume to be Maya
with religious programming. At one point, I believe I hrd a reference
to "Radio Maya", but I never hrd any call letters announced. I know the
listings show they aren't supposed to be on the air that early. I just
thought some of you all might want to check that one out. I'll
certainly be rechecking it asap. Any feedback would be greatly
appreciated.
Have a great weekend!

Solution to E100 Tuning Shaft Binding Issue

Gary DeBock

Hello Guys,

As part of an E100 AM RF alignment, a friend asked me to look at the tuning shaft, which had a binding problem on one side (making the tuner shaft feel somewhat ragged during rotation).  This problem has been reported by several owners, including Gary Kinsman, who reportedly solved his problem by inserting a small piece of a rubber O-ring to act as a shim.

My own solution, which worked perfectly in this case, was to use a bamboo skewer to apply a small amount of white lithium grease to the tuning shaft in the slot between the circuit board and shaft mounting bracket.  A photo showing this procedure has been uploaded to the group photo site, under the new "E100 Maintenance" album.  Hopefully this simple solution will correct this common problem, and provide smooth bind-free tuning for every E100 owner.
