Re: Re-Chiped G8
Roy <roy.dyball@...>
I thought I would post a picture of the torch used to solder in the chip for those interested. It actually belongs to my ex wife who purchased it to do jewellery work from eBay in the UK it only cost $5.00 and is of remarkable quality. Unfortunately the eBay site no longer exists. All I have done is unscrewed the soldering tip and I am using the flame jet as a torch. The flame can be adjusted very low. The battery is just there for size relativity. Roy.

Re: Sony M37 Filter mod

I cut and pasted this from directions I sent another ULRer.
Assuming you have this filter (sorry for the helter-skelter appearance): "Look at the pinout scheme at http://www.euroquartz.co.uk/pdf/ceramic-lts-450w.pdf All the grounds are soldered together to wire to place in the ground hole. The other two are input/output. It makes no difference which goes to input or output but you can determine which is which by the above scheme. On 50J, the stock filter, pinout: The pins on the filter are left to right on the printed side: input, ground, output." Gil

Another chip tells the DSP chip what to do, and handles the user interface functions. Roy bypasses that one with his USB interface. The control chip could be replaced if you had the data to program a replacement. Swapping those little surface-mount chips is risky work and Roy deserves a lot of credit for pulling it off! Roy has found a way to interface a PC to the radio, defeating the default parameters. It requires a little work on the circuit board, and the changes only remain in force until the radio is powered off. On the next power-up the defaults are re-loaded, and he has to re-instruct the DSP chip. He's offered to help anyone who cares to hack a radio, though. 73, Jim, KR1S http://qrp.kearman.com/

Sony M37 Filter Mod help needed
coffee_experts
Ooops - I see that the 1st message was not posted -
A user in the group sent me a Sony M37V and a replacement filter touted in the photo gallery as a useful mod for the M37V Sadly, there are 2 photos and no discussion. The user has sent me his new filter and M37V with no actual instructions other than the dis-assembly - which sadly is incomplete. Anyone in the group done this mod?

Another question about this MOD - the replacement filter has way more pins than the stock one - any idea which pins are used?

Agreed, if it has any sort of a front end--if not I predict massive overloading. Now, if it is really a 380 that has merely been switched out horizontal to vertical that would really be exciting--I would love to direct couple my 27" Stormwise wound w/ 660 Litz to a 360 if it is a performer "as is"--particularly if it has switchable AM band witdth--is anything known about the chip inside the 360?? Re: PL-360
Pollock,Raphael E <rpollock@...>
It probably needs the plug in due to the narrow width of the case w/ resultant micro ferrite bar if oriented horizontally in the upright case position--it will be interesting to see if this is a 380 in all regards other than cosmetic... Would make using a larger loop truly plug and play! 73, Deane McIntyre
