Re: Defining moment(s) that got you hooked on Radios?
Mine was when I was about 12 and my parents always purchased the Daily Telegraph newspaper here in the UK. One week there was an advertisement for the Russian Vega VEF-206 advertised by a company

Defining moment(s) that got you hooked on Radios?
Two defining moments for me....
1) The GE handheld radio (looking at it right now) that my aunt bought me for Christmas - I couldn't believe how cool it was having my own radio!
2) The one night in

Re: "One Radio to rule them all" or "Mix it up a bit" ???
Hi Peter,
I couldn't agree more, the feeling of a "proper radio" is hard to beat!
I'm finally to the point in my life were I could actually buy those "expensive radios" that I dreamt of as a teen, but

Re: Introduction
That sounds like a really good plan. My collection got a bit out of hand, so I have scaled it back a bit.

Re: Introduction
Sold mine to a radio friend locally, last I heard it was still working. At the time I didn't have the time or space to make the best use of it.

Re: "One Radio to rule them all" or "Mix it up a bit" ???
My go to radio is the XHDATA D-808. I did try the Tecsun 330, but found the MW performance to be poor so sold it on.
I do have a newly acquired SDRplay RSPdx which I'm planning on using for overnight

Re: Introduction
I love the R75 but my real love was an R8500, sadly it suffered some damage and while it was fixed, it was never really the same.

Re: Introduction
Did you sell your R75 or did it fail? Mine is starting to show some issues, at times it won't turn on or fails to receive anything. I think I have got a good run out of it but maybe it is time for it

Re: Introduction
Thank you, the PL330 sounds like it might be a winner. I hope to build my collection as I get more involved in the hobby but for the moment I am starting out basic and will expand on that.

Re: Another silly (?) question.
Sorry I missed your reply, I was on the road. Yea, it’s fun to play with radio.
Richard Feynman started his Nobel winning physics career as a kid fixing neighbors’ tube radios in New York City.

Re: Hobbies in Public Areas
Much the same issue here, 000 services all going encrypted and a lot of business users too, large part of the reason I got out of the scanning hobby.
