My V115 had a built in recorder but I was not a fan of that radio.
I personally take videos of anything "special" but mostly I don't record my loggings. I do keep written notes of these which I save

It sounds like the total cost of them is increasing to such a point that most people won't be able to afford the parts, even if they have the time and skills to build one.

- One station might be closer than the other?
- Band conditions could be different at the two locations
- Power? One HAM might be uisng 100 watts. The other might be using 5watts or 500watts
