Re: Polydoroff, what went wrong?-FARMERIK
Farmerik, You need to try the 4 coil Polydoroff configuration, as from my memory it is even more directional. I should work okay with standard wire and once you get worked out on the number of turns

Re: Polydoroff, what went wrong?-FARMERIK
First winding was 4 coil but only 55.06 uH because I did not connect the coils correctly. I had made it mechanically easy to rewind, and went to a convenient rather than ideal 3 coil configuration

Farmerik,
So is it a 4 coil polydoroff and are you happy with it's performance?

I connected the new antenna directly to the GP5/SSB MW/LW input jack and tried it out for directionality. On AM 560 which has a local WHYN 1 KW at 30 miles. Turned the antenna to null WHYN, I can

Re: Scan of AM broadcast band from Melbourne - 21 November 2015
Kite and wire?! Benjamin Franklin might have been impressed at the audacity.
And Gary will have taken note of the format of 3GG on his favorite frequency of 531. <g>

Scan of AM broadcast band from Melbourne - 21 November 2015
Not my video and not with an ultralight radio but this might help others to ID stations.

Re: Polydoroff, what went wrong?-FARMERIK
It won't work correctly has to be 2, 4, 6 and so on. Has to be even number of coils.

Re: Polydoroff, what went wrong?-FARMERIK
I went with a 3 coil configuration so I would only have to shuttle underneath the last coil. 9-16-9 turns. Now it measures 254 uH which sounds about right. That is an odd configuration I realize.

Once you correct the winding direction, it might be a good idea to checkthe inductance of each coil. That way when you have to take of some turns toreach the desired band coverage, you may only need

Let me know how it works? I am sure, based on my past experiments it willbe better than a single Coil.

OK, I see the difference now. I drilled and tapped the 3 inch PVC for #10 nylon screws and used rubber washers so it will not be hard to rewind. - FARMERIK

If I remember correctly, I think all of the coils are wound in the same direction for a Polydorff configuration. Look at the article that a wrote on the 4 coil Polydorff stacked toroid loop stick.

My first attempt at winding a 4 coil Polydoroff gave surprising results. Following Everett's work for the core [with some extra toroids], Everett used 22 turns I believe in a single coil. I went
