I found the answer in a comment on YT. "if you're in the states the am band needs to have stepping at 10 kilohertz , if your radio is set to 9, with the unit turned off press and hold the M - and lock

The HRD-1032 arrived this morning 1st Nov, they gave me a delivery date of 4-10th Nov, so it was early. I'll do the detailed testing and also the comparison with the CS-106 Peter
