The big gun NHK2 stations do leave their carriers on for quite some timeafter the actual s/off, Paul, even if the s/off is at 1540UT, but I don'tknow why.

At 1556UTC, 1 hour 16 minutes after todays sign off at 1440UTC and even after the usual 1540UTC scheduled sign off, 774khz Akita was still on the air, it appeared.. with an open/dead carrier.
