Speaking of NDBs, does anybody know the call sign for the NDB in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, at 520 kHz? I logged that one a while back, but I don't know its call sign. Thanks!

It sounds like you've activated the Sleep function. Do you have a little bed symbol in the top left of the display? Press the Power/Sleep button and within 3 seconds, turn the tuning knob to select

Youmay have changed the "Sleep Setting". Most radios with a Sleep functionallow you
to adjust the time from 90 minutes to 5 minutes.

Grundig G8 powering down
My Grundig has started powering off every 5 minutes. I changed the batteries to no avail. Is this a setting I may have accidently set. I'm also going to acquire an AC adapter to see if that

Hi Scott
The experiment definitely emphasised that the bifilar configuration was in series thus having the same resistance as the normal coil. I also wound my coil this way. You can see this in the

Roy,
I think the electromagnet with paperclips experiment is deceptive. In that experiment, only the dc resistance of the coil matters, not the RF properties. Two parallel wires of the same length

This is the CORRECTED post with CORRECT approximations:
1) Center the windings: keep them as far away from the ends as possible.
2) Space the turns 1 to 1 meaning the space between turns is the same

OOOPS: I found a mistake in what I wrote here... at a 4 to 1 rod length to diameter, the factor is 12, NOT 16 as I previously wrote... therefore the factor at 12 to 1 is 43.2, NOT the 47.2 I wrote.

Nice explanation, Paul. According to the Silicon Labs datasheet, the inductance should be between 180 and 450 uH (Si4730/31-C40, page 21). The current batch of chips may tune a 554-uH (or even perhaps

Roy,
Excellent! Many thanks. Then we can confidently work within the datasheet parameters for inductance.
Your results compare well with Ben Tongue's research into ferrite-bar antennas, here:
