TECH: PL300 loopstick tested
I measured my PL300's loopstick--I'll have to take back what I said about these PL3xx series apparently all using lousy loopsticks. This one has a good loopstick with good Q over the whole range even

TECH: PL380 stock loopstick tested
Today I checked the PL380's loopstick with the HP4342A Q meter. It's a lot lower inductance, and tunes over the whole MW range. Its Q is very close at MW to the PL310's loopstick though a little less

Those results certainly meld with my mw experiences with the 310...below about 900 KHz, it is a very sensitive set...similar to the Eton 5. Above about 1300 KHz, it is much more similar to a Sangean

Re: Early results of 7.5" Amidion rod
Gary
The G8 and the Pl-380 have almost identical front end circuit boards. They use the same chip. In both the radios the antenna goes straight to the Si4734 (pin 4) via only a coupling capacitor.

Re: Upgraded Tecsun PL-310 Internal Loopstick-- Moderate Success
Now we're getting somewhere! :) Gary, try spacing the turns as Roy did. That should perk up the Q and might net a little more improvement. Also, have a look at Ben Tongue's paper re using a spacer

Re: "New" and "older" PL-380s
Joyce of anon-co said something about AM stability, but no one here has noted any stability problems. One thing I've noted in comparing a G8 with a PL-380 is that the G8 is much more sensitive on SW.

For any ferrite rod used in a DSP-based Tecsun radio, there is an "optimum inductance," but this is not because of the chip. The antenna circuit is a simple parallel-LC combination, as verified by

"New" and "older" PL-380s
I have a PL-380 (#36920091000996). I'm not sure how old it is. What advantages are there in purchasing a "New" model? Thanks for helping me understand...
