it depends on how much money you want to put into the project, after all its only a 15 dollar radio. if you wanted to spend 70 bucks on radio and parts, why not just get a tecsun 380 ?

People have used ribbon cable to make loops. The wires are offset at the ends and jumpered in header connectors so there's a continuous circuit. Not sure about the turns spacing, but sure is easy
