Re: CKGM 990 Montreal Heard Testing on 690
I can hear CKGM on 690 in the small hours this morning. Canadian ads for Tim Hortons, and PSA's using dot ca EMAIL addresses. Seems to be Canadian branded "ESPN". I've heard the change went live

Sorry for that. I learned something new about a radio I have
owned for years (the DX-440 being double conversion). I just
assumed it was single because almost all double-conversion
radios list that on

Re: Tecsun PL-600 Birdie
Remember, my PL-600 does not have any birdie between 450 and 460. I dug out my old one, and it has no birdie there either. So there a two PL-600 radios without that problem. - FARMERIK

Re: Tecsun PL-600 Birdie
Thanks for all the info. Since it's quite strong, killing any normal reception between 450-460 I was bit concerned that the radio might have a serious fault. But as you all have pointed out, it seems

Re: Going Linear...
If unable to shut off the noise source, I would consider going "ultralight unlimited class" by coupling an outdoor terminated broadband loop antenna to your ultralight radio for DXing from the comfort

Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-4
Hello All,
Results here were very similar to Dennis' report. A few decent signals from "big gun" TP's, but quite a letdown from the thrilling South Pacific DX this summer on the Oregon cliffs :-) I

GM John- I also have noise on the low end of the BCB. I can track it to the utilities entrance on my house. From there, its pretty much radiated throughout the building. I've also found hot and cold

Re: Hidden coverage for 1715-2300khz in Tecsun DSP radios?
Yoonh,
I have a '505 but have not had a chance to try this yet. I'll try your trick in the next day or two and let you know what happens.

Re: Any groups for mid-size radios?
Keith,
There are many Yahoo Groups devoted to specific radio models: Tecsun PL-600, Degen/Kaito 1103, et al. Just Google "Yahoo Group ___" (name of radio) and you'll find them. To my knowledge,

Any groups for mid-size radios?
I'm interested in radios like the Tecsun's & Eton/Grundig's but medium-size like the Tecsun PL-398. Are there any discussion groups for these mid-size radios?

Re: Going Linear...
I would concentrate on trying to find the noise source if you
are sure it is inside your house. That is far easier than trying to
track down a noise source outdoors or somewhere down the road
a mile

Hi John,
Try turning off different circuit breakers in your house until the noise disappears.
Then find out what is on that circuit and unplug them one at a time until the noise

Re: Tecsun PL-600 Birdie
I don't consider it an issue. Here in North America there are a couple of Navigational beacons on 450 in the Caribbean - one of which I've heard a few times on a 2010 - but not much else.
Whatever

Re: Tecsun PL-600 Birdie
Most <$1000 radios have this problem... but its not really a problem. You are losing a total of 2 NDB's on 450kHz. The other nearest ones are 440kHz and 492kHz. As I posted earlier, you can use this

Re: Tecsun PL-600 Birdie
The DX-440/ATS-803 are dual conversion. Also, the Sony 2010 is
dual conversion. All exhibit the 455 kHz birdie syndrome though!
It can be a definite PITA!

I thought it was common for <$1000 radios to use 455KHZ

higher I.F. frequency). Then if there is I.F. leakage
