7.5" Slider Loopstick E100 Photos

Gary DeBock

Hello Guys,

Photos of the new modified E100 Slider-loopstick model have been uploaded to the Yahoo Group site.  Designed by three Washington state tinkerers (John Bryant, Guy Atkins and me) this summer, this tiny overachiever has already received 42 TP's for me this season.  The photos are of my PVC frame model designed for hand-held portability, although John Bryant has also designed a plywood-frame model suitable for table use.  Guy Atkins suggested the Murata CFJ455K5 IF filter, which has provided razor-sharp selectivity for any mission.  Details on this innovative compact DX model will appear in the AM-DX club bulletins soon.

Wonderful on the Mauritania and Mexico logs Paul ! I've tried myself for Mauritania from here a time or two. It seems to be there on my other rig but so far nothing strong enough to log any definite details  on ULR's yet here . Maybe the ongoing and upcoming  good seasonal conditions will change that  for me. !

Hi Allen,

your logs blow my mind!

You hear stuff that would be excellent here some 2000 miles east of you. Its also interesting to see the stuff you hear over the top of my "locals"..

fantastic stuff.

Okay, this morning (9/27/08) I heard this same station with religious
programs from 1024-1105 UTC. It turned out to be XEPQ all along, so my
tentative Yucatan logging please disregard. I'm only hearing their ID
following the playing of their NA at 1100.

Loggings on 730 khz

Kirk Allen <kirk74601@...>

Hello from the flatlands of Oklahoma,

Early this morning I logged two different stations from Mexico on 730.
The one I hrd a definite ID from was XEPQ, Ciu. Muzquiz, CO following
their NA at 1100. The other one I have to call tentative at this point.
I really think it was XEPET, Yucatan from 1058-1100 UTC. They were
definitely speaking an Indian language in what I presume to be Maya
with religious programming. At one point, I believe I hrd a reference
to "Radio Maya", but I never hrd any call letters announced. I know the
listings show they aren't supposed to be on the air that early. I just
thought some of you all might want to check that one out. I'll
certainly be rechecking it asap. Any feedback would be greatly
appreciated.
Have a great weekend!

Solution to E100 Tuning Shaft Binding Issue

Gary DeBock

Hello Guys,

As part of an E100 AM RF alignment, a friend asked me to look at the tuning shaft, which had a binding problem on one side (making the tuner shaft feel somewhat ragged during rotation).  This problem has been reported by several owners, including Gary Kinsman, who reportedly solved his problem by inserting a small piece of a rubber O-ring to act as a shim.

My own solution, which worked perfectly in this case, was to use a bamboo skewer to apply a small amount of white lithium grease to the tuning shaft in the slot between the circuit board and shaft mounting bracket.  A photo showing this procedure has been uploaded to the group photo site, under the new "E100 Maintenance" album.  Hopefully this simple solution will correct this common problem, and provide smooth bind-free tuning for every E100 owner.

Confirmation that WAZX is ON THE AIR on 1550 Khz.........

robert ross

Hi Guys:

I just got this email from an ODXA Member who lives near Atlanta....and
this is what she says.....

WAZX is still on the air...just tuned in. Sometimes at night here,
(suburban Atlanta) the signal can be weak. AFAIK, it has always been on
the air----local Atlanta Journal radio log would have noted if a major
station went silent here.

Maryanne

OK Thanks Maryanne.....I wanted to make sure I wasn't hearing things!!!
Several sources on the Net say that they did indeed GO SILENT over the
Summer...maybe they have just come back on?? In any event..you are
there...and so are they...so that confirms that!!!

Thanks for the assistance!!

A Few New Loggings

Kirk Allen <kirk74601@...>

Howdy Everyone,
I continue to be amazed at the loggings posted here. Congrats to all
you heavy-hitters that make my loggings look like Kindergarten 101,
hi hi. Yes, I can certainly tell the MW DX season is really getting
fired up by the day.

I have to admit that since I bought the E-100, I'd not listened very
much on my SRF-59 that John Bryant so graciously gave to me earlier
this year. But last night and this morning, I decided to check out
the Sony much more. Wow, all the raves about that little radio's
nulling abilities have certainly not been an exaggeration. The Sony's
sound quality and nulling capabilities impressed me very much. It
actually outperformed the E-100 during my last session. I've also
noticed the SRF-59 is much better in eliminating the local noises
here. I used the Sony in conjunction with the E-100, using the Eton
for knowing exactly what freq I was listening to. This was the first
time I personally did a head to head comparison of the two ULRs.
John, it's all your fault that I'm not getting enough sleep, but what
a way to go!

A few noteworthy loggings from this morning were:

CZFM, 740, Toronto from 0423-0608, 9/24, despite the slop from KRMG,
a semi-local here.

KBHB, 810, Sturgis, S.D. (I beleieve a new state for me), 0615-0640
UT, 9/24. Listed night power for them is 60 watts.

KLCN, 910, Blytheville, AR, 0653-0710 UT, 9/24. Listed night power is
85 watts.

KRGI, 1430, Grand Island, NE, 1238 UT, 9/24. Sports scores and lcl
ads. Station #171 so far.

Of course I had a host of UNIDs that need rechecking.

This is too fun!
73 and good listening to everyone.
