Interesting find! I located an English user's manual, and it's a little
too big (about 21 cubic inches) and sorta heavy. Interesting, though,
that Sony still is marketing something like this - I guess there's still a
demand in Canada for a small radio?

sized to me.

Re: Sony SRFM807....and SRF-M607

satya@...

Hi all:

I have been looking at these two receivers. Both are currently available
from a German seller off the German Amazon site for about $97 and off of
the UK Amazon site for $101, both with shipping costs.

After locating English manuals, they both have 9/10 khz tuning and 10 AM
memories (and 15 FM memories). So, my bad on saying they don't have MW
memories!

The two units appear to be identical except the M807 has a speaker and the
M607 does not. As mentioned below, the M807 comes in a North/South
America version that tunes to 1710 khz in either 9 or 10 khz increments,
while the Other Countries version of the M807 tunes to 1602/1610 khz in 9
or 10 khz increments - not sure which version is available form the German
seller. The M807 appears to be widely available in Australia, presumably
just the Other Countries version. Per the manual, the M607 only has the
Other Countries tuning range (i.e., no full X band).

It's tempting to see if this is the updated T615....

Kevin S
Bainbridge Island, WA

The instruction sheet does show how to change the step to 10 KHz, but
further down in the specs, it seems that the frequency range depends on
the market. The NA/SA model goes to 1710 KHz, while the model for "other
countries" does not, even with the step changed.

This behavior is entirely consistent with Sony's design on other digital
radios, like the SRF-M97 pocket radio. The ones on eBay are for the Hong
Kong market and only go to 1620 KHz even with the step set for North
America. An identical looking NA/SA model was briefly available and it
covered the full MW band regardless.

only
tunes to 1602 khz in 9 khz steps, so DXers in the Americas may not find

I "spun" several several ULRs around 360 and got nothing but WWJ. Oh well, par for the course I guess. I didn't get the Fall River MA station either.

OK, it's available at Amazon.co.uk for 71 euros delivered in 6-10 days to

Germany.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0009I9YOQ/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

The reviews at the Japanese Amazon site indicate that the AM sensitivity
is very good, so perhaps it is the T615 without the memories??

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.amazon.co.jp/%25E3%2582%25BD%25E3%2583%258B%25E3%2583%25BC-SRF-M807-SONY-FM%25E3%2583%25A9%25E3%2582%25B8%25E3%2582%25AA/dp/B000652P5C&ei=aIDfScaAIaHytAPhl6S4CQ&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=9&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3DSony%2BSRF-M807%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26start%3D10

If it has the performance of the T615 at this price, it would be quite a
bargain, as long as you didn't need the memories.

On the tuning thing: it is selectable to 10 khz splits. The manual which
explains how to switch 9/10 khz tuning is at:
http://www.docstoc.com/docs/1402397/Sony---SRF-M807---Operating-Instructions-%C2%B7-Portuguese-063-Mb

On the price aspect, doing a search, it looks like it can be obtained for
$98 Australian, which is about $70 US, so it can be had for under the $100
limit. So, if someone could figure out how to get one from Australia, and
the features are verified under the Definitions (it certainly looks like
it would qualify), this could be a very nice ULR!

Japanese language skills anyone? - Re: Sony ICF-R100MT

If it tunes to 1710, I would think it would have to go in 10 khz steps.
I'm looking at the manual from:
http://www.sony.jp/ServiceArea/impdf/RADIO.html
and on page 27, it looks as though they are explaining how to switch to 10
khz tuning steps.

Can anyone with a little ability in Japanese look at this?

Kevin S
Bainbridge Island, WA

Searching through the Sony Japan web site for "hits" on this model, I
stumbled on a PDF of the owner's manual (in Japanese). A rear view of the
set makes it obvious that the round "ear" thing in the upper left corner
is an ear bud that pops out. (Sorta like the SRF-SX100RV AM stereo model I
once owned, which had a spring-loaded reel-in set of stereo ear buds built
into the back).

Near the back of the manual are the specs - MW goes to 1710 KHz but only
in 9 KHz steps - I see nothing to indicate that the step can be switched.

Hi Paul,

the ICF-R100MT is certainly an interesting radio. Based on its design,
it may be an offshoot of the ICF-T615.

I checked out the links you mentioned, and noted a comment that it is a
"AM High Sensitivity Design: Large built-in AM antenna design that uses
high-sensitivity bar." This sounds encouraging!

I'm curious about the round "ear" on the radio that appears on the upper
left corner of the case. I did find another photo that shows this as a
full disc, coupled to the radio by what appears to be a cord or wire. It
looks to big to be an earphone, so I think it may be a tiny speaker on a
retractable cord. This would allow the user to clip the speaker on their
collar while the radio stays in the protective holster on a belt loop or
in a pocket. This kind of use would be appropriate for the mountain
hiker crowd the radio is targeting.

Another eBay seller with Tecsun R9012's available (at a slightly lower price) is "dpmega." He also is highly reputable, and offers the ergonomically friendly R9012 for under $20, including shipping to North America.

Hi Rob,

Great to hear that your new black R9012 analog DXing machines have arrived, and are working well! My own pair of replacements for the 2005 lemons is probably on the way from "Tquchina," who has to be one of the best sellers on eBay.

For the rest of you still on the fence about the Tecsun R9012, do your thumb a bid favor, and invest all of $9 (or under $20 including shipping, from "dpmega") in a superb analog portable with an actual round tuning knob.

Hi Guys:

Today I received NEW BLACK CASED Models of the TECSUN R9012 ULR's from
both TQUCHINA and DPMEGA in China!! The Radio from TQUCHINA was a FREE
REPLACEMENT for the 2005 ORANGE CASED MODEL which I received earlier
and was not happy with. He replaced the Radio without me having to
return the Faulty Unit which saved me packing it up and Paying to return
it.....so that was appreciated!! I also purchased a TECSUN AN-200 Loop
Antenna from TQUCHINA and it was in the same shipment and arrived Packed
extremely well!! I am very happy with the GREAT SERVICE from TQUCHINA.
Both this package and the R9012 received from DP MEGA arrived very
quickly and I would recommend both these sellers for anyone looking to
purchase ULRs in the future.

The R9012 received from DPMEGA is BLACK CASED and has the 2008 Serial
Number and Year of Manufacture. However...the Black Cased Unit from
TQUCHINA has a 2009 SERIAL # and YEAR OF MANUFACTURE!!! EVEN NEWER!!!!!
The Serial Number on this one is...........

08920090100753

Both the 2008 received from DPMEGA and 2009 received fro m TQUCHINA work
GREAT!!! They are both gonna be nice little ULR DX Machines!! It is
amazing the difference in SENSITIVITY between the 2005 ORANGE CASED
MODELS and the 2008 & 2009 BLACK CASED MODELS.

So........If you're looking for the LATEST Model of 9012 with a BLACK
CASE....TQUCHINA is now selling Radios manufactured in 2009!!!

Now.......Lets see if I can dig out anything new with either of them!!!
HHAHHAHA.....

Regards....ROB.

Three New Ones Yesterday!

John Cereghin <jcereghin@...>

I haven't had a day like this in a while, with 3 new UL stations bagged on the DT-400W barefoot.

1490 WBCB Levittown PA, 2000 TOH ID after country music program, with fiddle music that really cut through the gumbo. ID'ed by //webstream. I've been chasing this station for months and finally bagged them.

1470 WTZE Tazewell VA, 2150-2200, supposed to be 5kw daytime but heard at 10 PM with Alen Combes show, TOH ID along with WHIS in Bluefield VA. Heard several PSAs for the Red Cross in "Bluefield, West Virginia", then faded out, but back by 2150 with good IDs, so on late?

950 WCTN Potomac MD 0015 on April 10 with DX test, I managed to wake up in time for the test. Motown-type music with a catch of a WCTN ID. Down in the mud but did manage to dig it out. Not often heard here as Philadelphia usually dominates.

UL station count now at 529 stations.
