Re: My Final Verdict - Eton/Grundig Elite Mini
Johnny
Hi Jay!
GREAT point! I never even thought to try it during the day, as I almost NEVER DX during the day! I figured it had to be better in some way! Hi Paul! Thanks! I appreciate your comment, it makes me want to post more "reviews", although I hesitate to call them that as others on this forum are so much more thorough when reviewing. I guess there's room for all. Mine aren't reviews, but more "snapshots of performance"! ;) Johnny

Johnny,
Two things: The CC-2E is still a current model on C.Crane's website and at Amazon US. The CC-3 is an upgrade which is essentially identical but adds Bluetooth. Also, the differences between them and the Eton Mini be much more apparent if you check for weak midday signals. At night, sensitivity differences are often less of an issue. Jay

Dear GARY, thank you very much for your very
interesting
message here in our Community “ULTYRALIGHT DX”.
It’s really important to do and to experiment the DX’ing
without being a slave to a monitor!!
Only that it’s the best and right way to the Best experience.
HI ! Of course we need to know and study the Propagation ,
the frequencies, to check DX and so to LEARN the basic of the
Propagation for having much changes od best DX signals!
So we follow the Ultralight DX and FSL ANTENNA !
Please all my best greetings and Best DX to all members.

those of you who have recently joined our Ultralight DX group and also for those
who have been with us for the duration (since late 2007), we are honored to have
you in one of the radio community's fastest growing groups! Ultralight radio DXing is all about accepting the challenge of chasing distant radio stations with basic equipment, and relying on one's own skill and propagation knowledge instead of depending upon computer-controlled software for DXing success. YOU need to make the decisions about when to chase DX and what frequencies to check, and this forces you to learn the basics of propagation in order to have much chance of long range DXing success. Since you can only tune one frequency at a time, this also forces you to research which frequencies are likely to be the most productive, and choose those frequencies during enhanced (and very brief) propagation openings around sunrise and sunset. These are the keys to transoceanic DXing success with Ultralights, although they are also the key to success chasing long range domestic AM-DX, whether you are in North America, Europe or Australia. For those who have recently joined there is an extensive 39-page review of the top Ultralight radios in the current market, with extremely detailed reviews of the XHDATA D-808, the Radiwow R-108, the C. Crane Skywave (Basic and SSB), the Tecsun PL-330 and the Tecsun PL-380. The radios' relative performance on MW (AM), FM, Shortwave and AIR bands is thoroughly reviewed, with MP3 links provided so you can make your own judgement. A technical review and final verdict is given for each model, describing each radio's advantages and disadvantages in the current market. Re: Eton/Grundig Elite Mini - Initial Observations

That's what happened to mine and a Grundig Traveller ll
I cleaned off the Mini as Kevin described and also used a single edge razor blade to scape off the sticky rubber stuff. The radio looks rough but feels and works great.

Nice testing and write up, often this is what a review should cover, how well the radio works for the use that you will be making of it.

Re: Alpha Numeric confusion!
Paul Blundell
I should add that almost all AM stations use either the call sign, 3GG as an example or a more generic call, such as ABC Melbourne. These are more common when the same content is transmitted on different frequencies.

The rubberized coating will eventually get rather nasty to the touch. It can be removed with a rubdown with rubbing alcohol. the 90% concentration will work faster but the 70% will work as well. Both require a bit of the armstrong method (aka elbow grease) to successfully remove the coating. 73, kevin kc6pob

I got mine out as well. Somewhere, I think I have a couple of them, but I found the newer "Elite" one with the nice orange LED display right away. I had forgotten how much fun it was. All the bands are good, and I got a lot of stations on SW, which surprised me. I'll keep it out for awhile. Emily Hastings Keene Pittsburgh, PA Sent from my Boost Samsung Galaxy A32 5G
