Re: Eton/Grundig Elite Mini - Initial Observations

Hi Johnny
I did wonder if you’d seen that 🤔. It’s not here yet, but I’m expecting it later today. I’m pretty keen to see it myself! This morning I started to renovate an old Panasonic RF-2200 that came through the door on Friday. That is even more exciting, but not ultralight of course! Drifter

Alpha Numeric confusion!
FenDrifter
Hi all
As a complete novice to this game, I’ve got to admit to utter confusion about loggings I’ve seen on here. What do they all refer to? If a logging was for instance Radio Romania International etc etc I’d understand it, but when, again for instance, it’s 2BBK (I made that up) it makes no sense to me. Is there a simple explanation please? Drifter

MW Frequency Challenge - Week 9 Results and Week 10 Announcement (ENTIRE Expanded Band!)
MW Frequency Challenge - Week 9 results and Week 10 announcement:Congrats to Rob Keeney for taking the top spot in this week's challenge!
We also had some pretty impressive mileage coming in this week. Take a look at the full results from Week 9 - 550 kHz at the blog post, below!
Remember, for week 10, we are doing the ENTIRE expanded band! 1610-1710 kHz. Licensed stations only, but this does include TIS stations as well as standard US/international broadcast stations (no pirates, no NDBs, etc.)
The logs are already pouring in from DXers, and we are just now at 24 hours in. What will YOU hear this week? Google form for entries is in the blog post, below.
73, good luck and best of DX!

Re: Identifying obscure languages?
Zacharias Liangas
this is more personal message : i m quite old ready to be 60 but was of the fist in Greece to deal with computers since the mid 70s , Buite ahead of my time nut always was very close to any good and useful technologies since that time.
If you are interested for more on checking for mysterious languages there was a site related to 'Christian' religion with texts from the bible and passes translated in more than 1500 languages with videos or audio files. it s not easy now to look for that as i don't remember the site What do you mean by cantankerous?

Vintage Sangean SR radios
dwight richardson
Hi group. I am a domestic MW fan since I live 300 miles inland. Have a Sony 29/ 39/ 49 trio and a home brew loop antenna. Spot with a Sangean DT-110 and DT-500. Lots of fun on long winter nights as you know. But my interest right now are the small Sangean analog radios. Does anyone in the group have Sangean SR-1, SR-2 or SR-3 radios they are willing to part with? The current model is SR-32. But hard to find as well. Anyone? There are a couple of SR-1 units on eBay for $100 plus shipping. But I just can’t justify in my mind. Thanks

Re: Should this be soldered?

If it drains the batteries when turned off a work around might be to remove the battery between uses I have had a few radios which had an odd defect wherein they did not power down all the circuits which caused this kind of issue although battery drain during use was normal.
Not that this is convenient but it might be interesting to know. Jay

Very many thanks Steve, that’s much appreciated! This may have to go into the ‘spares’ bin I think, because battery drain is very rapid. Drifter

Re: Should this be soldered?
Steve Ratzlaff
Looking at the diagram it does not appear that pad goes anywhere; if so then it doesn't matter if it's left unsoldered, and it wouldn't change anything if it were soldered. If the other side of the board, which of course you can't see, has traces and there is a trace going to that pad, then yes, it needs to be soldered. But that's probably unlikely, as probably all the traces are on the side you can see. 73, Steve

Hi FenDrifter,
The main reason I like the "Mini" so much is that is has an actual FM antenna. I like that for FM DX'ing. But I'm REALLY interested to see how the one that you purchased works, I've seen those online and "wondered" about them... pretty enticing! J

Well, having read your post Johnny, I did what I do best and started looking online! I really did like the quality look of Mini, but being a cheapskate I’ve ordered this one, I’ll post how it works.
