Muchas Gracias por tu ayuda, Jorge.

DX will still be easier in the evening for a few weeks to come, but soon the morning local slots will be in the dark too and we'll have two harvests per day.
I had a new one this morning but not Ultralight (a RTL SDR dongle and an indoor Wellbrook loop ). SER Oviedo was still good at 0725 local
with mentions of Verdi's Nabucco being performed at Oviedo Opera if I understood correctly.
Frequency was 1026.
I have withdrawn from my historical log the 10 dead stations (list follows).
So I'm now at 87 stations logged (95% in Ultralight) which leaves me 86 more to catch, as my own study shows a total of 173 stations audible in 2021.
Silent stations on MW

1602 Radio Euzkadi,Vitoria, E, Spanish
1485 Punto Radio, Villanova i Geltru E, Spanish

Radiwow.com would be the best place since they have a US based warehouse. I purchased a radio from their Aliexpress shop it was really good. A fellow dxer bought a D808 from their website and everything went smoothly. 73s

Re: Spain on MW, a few remarks.

Hi Patrice and Gary,
The Spanish MW panorama is a recurring issue in MW Dxing forums from time to time. I reckon that a MW network cannot be seen just as a DXing pest avoiding to catch far away stations, but this is another vision not to be dealed here now. 😉

Working all Spanish provinces on MW is a real challenge for the serious DXer. That's the reason why implemented the Challenge "IBERIA en OM" award at the IberiaDX group. The challenge includes the Spanish provinces, Portuguese districts, and the radiocountries involved with both countries as Ceuta, Melilla, the Canaries, Azores and Madeira, plus Gibraltar and Andorra. Rules and examples of how to record IDs can be checked at https://iberiadx.wordpress.com/el-reto-iberia-en-om/ Written in Spanish, I will translate it into English later today (try Google translator in the meantime).

I did not know that Gary and folks never got Spanish MW signals when they were at DXPs and that shows it is still a real challenge. I am writing a full article on how to DX Spanish stations giving tips and clues to get the elusive stations. I will also provide a detailed chart with local and regional slots including local advertisements, very useful for a rewarding DX chasing. A similar chart as the image that I am adding here (CEST time showed).

¡

Saludos y buen DX!

Frank,

Your safest bet, if you are in the U.S., would be to order from a U.S. seller. C.Crane has a good reputation for standing behind their products. I have ordered many radios direct from China in the past and have not had any problems, but I've heard stories of people having problems returning defective items.

On the other hand, I have the XHDATA D-808 and like it quite a bit; I got mine secondhand from a U.S. seller.

Frank,

Your last group of 5 posts included two which could have been combined (on the above topic), and two others which could have been sent privately. Unless a DXer has received exceptional DX, there is rarely any situation where 5 posts need to be sent by one member one after another. "Posting for the sake of posting" is not helping this group, and is causing some members to decide to drop membership. A warning was issued about this practice previously.

Re: 3 inch FSL Loop Construction

The market for these would be husge. It sounds like the time and cost means that they are only built in small runs.

Birthdays were always a good time to get a radio. As I got older this was replaced with video games and computers. Still the magic of radio was never far away.

I too received a small transistor radio as a birthday gift when I was a young child.  Lots of local stations could be heard from our house some 30 miles south of Chicago.

Then, one night, I was switching stations and I heard a faint signal in my earpiece.  It was some station way up in Milwaukee maybe 100 miles away!
(Probably WTMJ).

I have been hooked ever since.  Even getting my Ham ticket.

Re: a question regarding 2 pocket setts? :)

My radio history is not very interesting. I started out with some kits and just kept making them. I had a couple of pocket radios which I used in junior high and just kept an interest as I grew up.

hi all,
i'm new to this lovly group, dxing is what I love!
fm dxing mostly.
I have a question.
I own the tecsun pl10 et,
and was looking at the Radiwow-r-108
so here are my questions if it is no trouble?
1.
what is fm reception like between the pl10 et and the r108?
selectivity etc, is it alot better?
2.
what is the avarage runtime with the r108?
3.
is it possible to turn off the display completely on the r108?
i'm blind.
on a related note how would i go about turning off the display completely on the pl10 et?
4.
is there another unit that is better than the r108 with the specifications that I have given above?
i've herd about the pl660
which sounds interesting,
wish it was possible to change the filters on the fm band, makeing them narrower etc,

thanks for welcomeing me to your lovly group!
sorry for spelling errors, i'm blind.

Re: ULDXIndex - August 2021

Hey.
It is much easier to see the results like this. Your frequent post makes it hard to keep track and know what results are the best. That log of 8.645 is really high, I assume a good signal helped?

But have we in mind the fantastic hunting ground that Spain provides for Ultralight hunters ?
Ever since I bought my Tecsun, I logged 97 Spanish stations, some of them are now dead, especially in the Pais Vasco
(for instance Euzkadi Irratia 1386 khz).

Much to my surprise, I checked today with MWLIST.ORG what is still to be Identified (both RNE and private networks)
and I ended up with 82 stations, that I still haven't heard.

So, let's hope Spain stays on the scene, and I can get new ones galore.

Thanks Patrice,

Not only European DXers but also DXers on the other side of the world try for these Spanish MW stations.

During the November 2019 Poipu, Hawaii DXpedition every continent of the world except Europe was received on MW with a CC Skywave Ultralight and a 5 inch (12cm) FSL antenna. Almost all of the old European big guns (756-DLF, 1134-Croatia, 1377-France Info etc.) have gone QRT, making Europe a pretty tough challenge to receive in Hawaii and the Pacific Islands. Even 864-ERTU was received in Hawaii, but we drew a blank with Europe.
