Re: DX

Hi,
I use a few different radios. My main Ultralight radio is my Digitech AR-1733. I also use my Teac PR130 at times. What radios do you own?
I see you are a new member on here, welcome to the group. What have been your main radio interests until now?

Paul

Sounds like a real winner. I have used a couple of digital recorders in the past but nothing of late, I might need to look into getting another one.

I used a Q3 tecsun recorder player with FM radio  for long time till i started my SdR
MY review
https://gadgets-zliangas.blogspot.com/2015/10/tecsun-q3-review.html
In contrast to the most of the above it is a simple model recording only in MP3 128/44 mode with steps of 1 hours if the recording lasts more
ti has very good sound quality via earphones in MP3/WMA/WAW playback

ICR100 is also good with good sensitivity in MW/FM with slightly less bass in earphones Also good audio via the speakers. FM sensitivity is better than PL380
The generated files are of type RECxx.mp3

1100kHz mais mais brazil

Edited

from my latest monitoring at https://wp.me/pcMZHt-4R here is a log that needs clarification

1110khz with presumed religious program with spiritual song at 1313z (coracao)  “mais mais brazil”  as motto , then a beat song . S20 or -37 dbm   Not real ID for much time except this motto
Does anyone here  know which is the station? As per my logs these 3 signals from that kiwi SDR seem to transmit very from  a very nearby point
Thanks!

I also use the DR-05X for quite some while, can only underline the good results. Besides this I had tested the Zoom H-1n which is also fine in recording but emitts a lot of RFI noise as the components are not shielded. Also fine any very small is the Olympus LS-P4 which I use with the radios from time to time but more in the office or when travelling. For simple recording purposes also useful is the Tecsun ICR-100 which adds another loadspeaker of decent quality. Good recording except from old radios with very small line our put levels. The Tecsun has no noise (RFI) as it is a simple usb recorder and no pulse recorder. The mp3 files of the Tecsun show no date/ time in case this important for you. Good luck!

Sony SRF-T615 availability?

James A. \(Andy\) Moorer

Anybody know how to get a Sony SRF-T615? Mine died last week - I've had it over 10 years. Won't wake up any more. I checked the usual sources and couldn't find any for sale. Thoughts?

Hi Jerry,

How does it do with a line in from your radio?  Great I imagine, as that is its primary purpose, I would guess?

But how is it recording a "live" source, like something in the room or a outdoor sound?

Thanks a lot!

Re: Tecsun PL-368 Manual / Enhanced Convenient Tuning (ETM+)

Robert Conboy

What I find very annoying about the PL-330 is somewhere in the gain algorithm. Not sure if it’s the same thing you’re reporting as annoying soft-mute. There seems to be discreet steps of gain/attenuation without hysteresis, so the loudness often flutters rapidly at some medium to low signal levels, even if the signal strength is relatively steady.

If the DSP is lowering the audio gain when signal strength or SNR is below a threshold, then it’s soft-mute. But if the DSP is raising the IF gain (or its equivalent in software) when signal strength is below a threshold then it’s AGC.

Either will create the same rapid fluttering change in volume if gain/attenuation is in discreet steps and there is no hysteresis, because noise, being random, is constantly crossing above and below the threshold. If the time constant is around 1/10 of a second then the flutter rate may be in same neighborhood.

I think its a bug or something overlooked by their engineers and QC.

Rob

Re: Tecsun PL-368 Manual / Enhanced Convenient Tuning (ETM+)

Hi Paul
I have to say on the PL-330 that the "soft mute" is annoying the heck out of me. Its even present on reasonably strong signals and no way of disabling it. I have a PL-380 and it disables if scanned down freq then retuned but that doesn't work on the PL-330. What kind of works is to off tune the frequency but sometimes needs 2Khz on a strong signal. The SYNC is not very stable so that doesn't help much. I've resorted to using zero beat SSB but thats not great on MW.
Apart from that its a fine radio but its not getting much use around here!
Cheers, Gav

Re: Question about your mobile/remote DX'ing procedure.

I know most stations by ear and from my lists I can tell which stations I am hearing. I also have internet access on my smart phone so that helps at times.

Hi all,

Regarding mobile/remote DX'ing (anywhere not in your house)

What (if anything?) do you use to assist with station identification?

When I am at home, I use the internet to some extent to assist with some of my ID's, but mobile/remote monitoring (depending on how remote) could make the use of the internet more difficult.

Would love your thoughts here, as I'm trying to really streamline my mobile/remote "kit" of items that I take with me.

Thanks!
