Long Term DX Project - Easter 2021
Paul Blundell
Date: 02/04/2021 - 05/04/2021
Time: 6pm and 10pm each night Location: Home, Launceston Tasmania. Notes: Over the Easter break I have ran a condensed version of my Long Term DX project where I have logged the same 10 stations at the same times each day for four days. The results can be seen below, including an average signal level. As I expected, the three 50kw "big gun" stations were the best performers. 3GG on 531kHz, HPON Geelong on 1341kHz and HPON Melbourne on 1422kHz all averaged in the fours. https://ultralightradiodxing.blogspot.com/2021/04/long-term-dx-project-easter-2021.html

Re: ULR DX - New record for me SANGEAN DT-250
The CKPC and WWRU logs are excellent reeception.
CKPC 25kW 5690km WWRU 10kW 5640km (actually the 'better' catch because of lower power) Both over 3500 miles. Congrats. Paul S. in CT

ABC TV's "News Breakfast" will have me on at 6:35AM AEST Tuesday which is 12:35PM AK time Monday. You can’t watch a live stream of the show outside Australia but I’m told I’ll get a recording of the segment emailed to me after the fact at some point Paul

ULR DX - New record for me SANGEAN DT-250
Hi, I am extremely glad to share what it is my personal distance record with my Pocket SANGEAN DT-250 and the built-in ferrite. Distance: 5.940 km. I heard CKPC Arise 1380 AM from Cantabria (Spain) on 3rd April 2021form 04:34 to 05:20 UTC. I use to wake up early everyday and from the bed I check MW conditions with Sangean DT-250 and DT-800. Two days before I could get quick fading (unfortunately just a non modulated carrier) on 1440 and 1200 kHz channels. The morning of 3rd April I started my scan from 1.710 kHz when I got a faint signal coming from the States. Uhmmm, very good conditions, I though! Very good indeed as I got signals from 1.710, 1.660 (WWRU), 1.560, 1.440, 1.400 (CBG) and finally 1.380 kHz (the best of the six that I got). On 1.380 kHz I heard a faint -but already known- ID, so I decided to record a video clip that I am attaching here for those interested on it. I am not sure if there is a world log for this small pocket receiver, but for me it's my personal record with this ULR and built-in ferrite (not even an inducted external antenna at all). It is worthy to check conditions every morning. Now and onwards, pre-dawn and before sunrise times are unsettled and rewarding and anything can happen. With the best conditions, our beloved ULR can bring us an entire world of unexpected signals. 24 hours later, on 4th April, just a couple of weak modulated signals were audible on 670 kHz and 1440 kHz. So conditions were gone! ¡73 y buen DX! Jorge Garzón Gutiérrez "IberiaDX" (EB7EFA · EA1036 SWL · BDXC Member 1409) QTH: IN83ag / 43º15' N · 03º56' W Urb. I could not agree more on both counts. They have both helped to develop and promote our hobby in such a great way. Paul

And there is now truly a paul Walker variant after Gary had to make a few adjustments to my FSL. But../ these antennas are for sure rockstars. Paul

Lot of great exposure for the hobby! Credit to how well the radio interviews have gone, Paul.

Gary DeBock also deserves a lot of credit. His FSL antenna designs are not only highly sensitive, but he obviously built them well enough to stand up to the harshest DXing conditions. Reminds me of those old Timex watch commercials. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
