I don't know of / have heard anything on the MW band. I am not about FM but nothing local to me in Tasmania.

Re: 4RN 792 Brisbane?

Hi Paul,
I had a listen but nothing unfortunately to give a definite answer. Radio National has a lot of recorded programs at that time so very difficult to tell. It is a shame it wasn't at the top of the hour.

Re 2EC 765. It is no more it has transitioned to FM and is no longer on 765 khz.

4RN 792 Brisbane?

Paul B. Walker, Jr.

I heard what I *THINK* is 4RN, 792khz Brisbane here in Alaska on Sat. Mar 6th at 710am AK Time/1610UTC(Sun. Mar. 7th 210am in Brisbane). The signal is consistent, but weak and I had to narrow audio to 1khz bandwith filter to get anything remotely useable and it's still pretty muffled.

Does anyone recognize this as ABC Overnights? Audio:

Well done Paul.

Recently I drove from Eden NSW to Moruya NSW and accidentally happened upon these 2 masts beside the road. According to ACMA this site is 2EC 765 kHz at Kalaru, serving Bega.

ACMA also lists 2EC has having a Tx on 1584 kHz at Narooma, just up the coast, but I couldn't find any antennas there upon inspection.

The music was great so please let me know if you can copy either of them.

Regards, Grant vk2gel.

Edited

This morning 6th March, there was virtually nothing on MW from South America. Even the Brazillian on 940 was weak.
This is more usual for this time of year.

Another update:

Last night, just after midnight I heard this station the best I ever have. It was booming in and even barefoot, my AR1733 made this sound like a local station.

Just as an update to this, on Saturday night around 11:45pm, I was able to log and confirm this station again, this time it was "bare foot" on my AR-1733 receiver.
The signal was weak and barely heard above the noise but around 11:48pm, it had an opening for around 30 seconds which provided both an on-air ID and also a .co.nz url, during this time the signal was maxing out the signal meter but then fell back into the noise.

Thanks Gary, it was a bit of a shock to hear this station at such a strong signal level.

I am working on a list of the most likely NZ stations to target. I did have a few nights planned away next month on the east coast but this has been pushed out until the middle of the year.

Nice logging, Paul!

Your peak time for tracking down Kiwi signals should be around your local sunset, especially if you can manage to try this on an eastern Tasmanian ocean beach. You'll probably find quite a few New Zealand signals hitting S9 peaks at those locations, and possibly 558-Fiji (now that 7BU has bailed). 1017-Tonga might also win the horse race with Sydney's 2KY.

I'm definitely a fan of the XHATA D-808. Although I don't like the fact they they capitalized (a nice way to say it) on C. Crane's R & D costs for their Skywave SSB, the fact is that the D-808 is a great performer in its size/price range and a great value. Although I don't like Soft Mute,  at least it seems somewhat subtle here and I can live with it. But like the Radiwow R-108 in its category I think these are two little marvels.

I do agree, Les. One of the awful things with Chinese electronic manufacturers is the lack of quality control. I had similar event with a Tecsum PL-330 and I give it back. It took more than two months to recover my money with Aliexpress, so I will never buy again via this Chinese trickster store. Additionally I will use purchaser benefits from Paypal like "shipment fees return" as part of its customer's services.

Welcome to the group.

Quality control with any product is a challenge. It’s clear from reading your review that you received a “lemon” (bad sample) of the D-808.  The unit that you received does not perform similar to what users here have experienced.

For example, the DSP audio bandwidth settings are quite accurate with 4 kHz and 2.5 kHz being very close to exactly that when viewed on an audio waveform here.

Performance wise, the XHDATA D-808 ranks among the best portables that I’ve ever owned. I’d recommend purchasing another one before giving up on this stellar performer.

Best of DX to you.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the review. It is has been sometime since I have played with both the CCrane and the XH-Data. From what I can remember and correct me if I am wrong, the XHData suffers from the "soft mute" issue that can be distracting when scanning the bands looking for DX. If they both use the Si4735 chip it is a pity there isn't a mod to disable the soft mute on the XHData.
