I guess you don't let them go dead flat or remove the batteries before this happens. Paul

Re: AR-1733 Fault
Gord Seifert
Hope that does not effect the AR-1780! Just had one arrive yesterday and am pretty impressed. It seems just as good as either the PL-310et or the Eton Satellit Grundig Edition in reception. The AGC is far better than that in theTecsun where it is way too slow to keep up with fluttery fading. Also the bandwidth filters seem much more usable than those in the Tecsun where they seem to accentuate the high pitched background hiss. Audio is better than the Tecsun but not as good as the Satellit. The SSB is far better than the Satellit's. In the Satellit it is mainly useless for use on a normal signal to select one sideband or the other to avoid interference from a nearby signal. The AR-1780's SSB is very useful for that. Exremely stable! And the separate fine tuning wheel is wonderful. With SSB, on it is just like the extremely fine tuning of the Satellit, plus or minus very small amounts, which should be excellent for a true SSB signal. WIth SSB off, the fine tuning is in 1kHz steps so you almost never need to chose between fast and slow on the main tuning knob. ATS works but is not near as useful as in either of the others. There is no provision for deleting, copying or pasting a frequency that I can find. Do a scan and you need to keep your eyes on it since it just flashes up a message that it is saving something into a particular slot. If you miss the message you won't know how many frequencies it saved. You can not browse through saved frequencies with the tuning knob like you can with the PL-380et. You need to press 0 through 9 and then switch to another page and again press 0 through 9 again to scan through them. But least there are 10 slots per page, a bit more sensible than the Satellit where a page has seven slots. Nice radio! I would not like to see it die like the AR-1733 seems to do. Regards, Gord

Hi, I saw by chance an informal review about the Sangean DT-120. I also found some references to these others: DT-800 and SR-35. Have you tested any of these regarding selectivity and sensitivy? Pros, cons? 73!

That's a crazy bug, as batteries go flat oftenly. How do you avoid that?

Strong here with standup comedians doing their shtick. String of ads including one for 5G cell phones from Bell Canada. Ironic that they are heard much clearer on my little Sangean DT160 than the Superadio which seemed to be experiencing some KNX 1070 overload.
Pipeline to the north tonight. Logged previously here as CFCN.

Re: Digitech AR-1458 Review - Work In Progress

Over the weekend I spent some time testing the AR-1458 with my 3" FSL aerial.
Using my Teac PR130 as a spotting receiver, I was able to confirm a number of stations during the afternoon, a video of these are below.

Re: Ultralight DX Challenge. News from Spain.
Well, I am glad to inform that the Ross DX Challenge achieved on 20th. Just 11 days to score 300 stations. Nevertheless I will be adding more stations until the end of the 30 days period. Now it is already 310, but progression is slower than before! The DEGEN DE1103 is a real jewel and it's a real pity they discontinued the PLL model. Some people told me than the newer DSP one does not bright on MW. Did you noticed this? 73!

Re: Ultralight DX Challenge. News from Spain.
Thank you very much Gary and the group. I would like to pay your attention about some interesting proposal (I hope) about awards. There is an "European Centurian Award" but there is no a 'reverse' one for Europeans (or others) listening to American stations. Also, there is a extremely interesting challenge on MW rband elated with Spanish MW stations. We have about 200 MW stations in Spain and all of them have local and regional slots daily. It's not easy to record all of them of at least a large number when they are not networked. That involves to previously check the slots, knowing the propagation behaviour, how long do they air micro slots, even check phone codes sometimes to confirm doubtful ones. The UK MW panorama has also many stations, most of them low-powered and probably dangerously tilting to broadcast networked in a future, so we are still on time. May we think about it, propose something and maybe be taken into account? I strongly thing that we could help to raise interest in DXing or perhaps our hobby will be buried into techs and computers forever!!! ¡Muchas gracias!

Thanks for letting us all know of the Ultralight DX Challenge excitement spreading across Europe-- it is similar to our excitement here in North America during the Ultralight Radio boom year of 2008. We were posting so much Ultralight-related news on the North American IRCA club list that they secretly asked John Bryant (a famous DXer) to persuade us to move away from the IRCA list, and form our own email list-- which we did. John Bryant himself then caught the "Ultralight bug," and became one of our group's leaders! As for the Ultralight DX Challenge awards for you and your friends in Europe, please feel free to review their information, and issue the Award Certificates for them and yourself at any time, Jorge. We are thrilled at your progress, and wish all of you in Europe the best of Ultralight DX! 73, Gary DeBock, N7EKX (in Puyallup, WA, USA)
