Airband Listening
Paul Blundell
As some ultralight radios also cover the VHF Airband, I have published a guide on this.

Re: Saying Hello
I agree with you, Andy. This gentleman (?) has just been given the permanent boot.
The kicker was that he didn't want any email delivered from the group, which makes it pretty obvious that he doesn't care anything about Ultralight radio. Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA)

Yep. Someone just joined the VLF group, posted the exact same message, but from an entirely different name/email.

County Comm GP-5SSB/PL-360 display whine
Hi all,
Wonder if any other users have encountered this: display whine especially in MW thru audio when radio is held in hand. This is the freshly released black radio. I have one of the gray ones (both gen. III) and it is perfect. Tecsun dropped the ball on this one. Anyone know of a fix? Anyone else had it happen with your units? Thanks, Rich

Ultralight Radio DXing Session - 04/05/2020
Paul Blundell
DATE: 04/05/2020
TIME: 21:30 – 22:15 LOCATION: Home, Launceston Tasmania. RADIO / AERIAL: Digitech AR1733 / 3” FSL Aerial NOTES: Last night I spent some time searching the band, my focus was on logging South Australia stations. In total I logged 19 stations, most were average or good signal levels. 5SY on 693kHz was a good log, as I was able to null out 3AW who share this frequency.

Ultralight Radio DXing Session - 3/05/2020
Paul Blundell
DATE: 03/05/2020
TIME: 21:45 – 22:50 LOCATION: Home, Launceston Tasmania. RADIO / AERIAL: Digitech AR1733 / 3” FSL Aerial NOTES: Last night I spent some time searching the band, my focus was on logging South Australia stations. As can be seen below, I logged 14 stations at varying signal levels. 5RN on 729kHz was the standout with several other stations towards the top of the band also being received at good signal levels. A few stations were missing, these are either very low power stations or suffer from bad overload / mixing from other stations. I am documenting these and will make tracking these down more of a focus.

Ultralight Radio DXing Session - 02/05/2020
Paul Blundell
DATE: 02/05/2020
TIME: 22:10 LOCATION: Home, Launceston Tasmania. RADIO / AERIAL: Digitech AR1733 / 3” FSL Aerial NOTES: Last night I spent some time searching the mediumwave band, my focus was on hunting down some of those stations which I don’t log that often. Two highlights were logging 6WA on 558kHz at 2679km and also logging 2ST on 999kHz, this is my first station on 999kHz from home, normally our local TOTE HPON station on 1008kHz totally knocks out anything either side of this however last night I was able to null this out enough to get a good signal on 999kHz.

KJJR DX Test on Saturday (May 2, 2002)
Paul Blundell
https://swling.com/blog/2020/04/kjjr-dx-test-on-saturday-may-2-2002/
KJJR 880 Whitefish, MT(Kalispell) will test for 1 hour at 10kw non directional Saturday May 2nd 12:01am to 1am mountain time. It will consist of morse code, sweep tones, along with various telephone sound effects There will be no paper QSL’s issued for this test. Only emailed confirmation. Send an email to walkerbroadcasting@... with “KJJR 880 DX Test” in the email (You MUST put that in that subject line so I don’t accidentally delete it thinking it’s spam!). The reply will likely be a simple email reply with details of the station and confirming the details of what/when you heard it. You WILL get a reply from me in due course, please give me some time! This is done on short notice and being kept simple as to not burden anyone involved. Thanks to Les Rayburn for creating the test material and Todd Clark for generously offering up the station. I’ve already seen communication between him and the station, asking them to block out an hour from the logs, so he can tinker around with things at the tower site. --Paul - Moderator UltralightDX
