Hello Ceo,

There is no system currently set up on Ultralightdx to moderate posts (except for those from known spammers, or repeated violators of our rules of courtesy). Your posts are probably being randomly delayed by quirks in the Yahoo message system, as all of us have experienced at one time or another.

I've sent a post in about my FSL experiments twice now, and neither have shown up. Do certain posts get held back for moderation, or is there some sort of incoming spam system the message may have triggered?

I sent the first one BEFORE the one I sent about gapped ferrite FSL's. THat one appeared immediately.

Two New Logs

John Cereghin <jcereghin@...>

Hi, Everyone,

A fruitful Christmas holiday with two new ULR logs, both logged
barefoot on my PL-310.:

730 WZVG, Charlotte NC (really Cramerton NC) with ESPN730.com liners,
obviously ESPN radio. Been hearing this one lately around sunset,

1230 WBPZ, Lock Haven PA, 2000 on 12/25 with weather and a call ID,
into Christmas music.

I'm leaving for a week in Nova Scotia on New Year's Eve for a late
Christmas with the inlaws. Naturally the ULRs are going with me.
Will try to do some DXing while up north. I have about 130 stations
in my Nova Scotia ULR log, so I'm naturally looking to fatten that up
with more European stations.

The North Pole DX

It was Christmas Eve at Santa's Place, and all thorough out the house low and high in height, Santa was not DX'ing at all tonight.

He winced at getting up from his listening chair, but he knew Christmas deliveries were in the air.

As he donned his final suit, he exclaimed all the while, "This time I will bring the portable receiver and with it sky high at least a few miles, I will DX Mars I know!" with a few wry smiles.

As he leaps on his sleigh, with Rudolph, Donner, Blitzen and the rest. "Someday", he thinks, "I will put that new dipole to the test."

When you realize with your inner child that Santa has come and left, you might be sad if along with milk and cookies...you didn't leave him WRTH 2013, even with all its heft.

So to all, this night and day to come, all to sleep tight, and a wish for a Merry Christmas to you and for all a good night. -- JR

Guys....Thanks for help.

I don't count a station as logged unless I clearly heard the calls or some other critical info.

This morning about 1000UT (5AM EST) I received an E-QSL from KBC radio for the RX on 21600. Hopefully I can get some more time to listen to them on Tue or Wed.: the special programming is not on today.

I know we are generally an AM/FM/LW group, but recently there has been a rather rare opportunity for reception on 21600 kHz in the 13 meter SW band. Generally the only station found here is R. Espana (Spain), and since its main direction is South, even here on the E. Coast is only fair to good at best.

A few days ago there was a report that KBC "Trucker Radio" was putting out a booming signal on 21600, with tenative location in Germany. The broadcasts have only been from 1500-1600 UT (10AM - 11AM EST) and today I thought to try it since there was a logging from AUSTRALIA!. Knowing a few things about global position, this looked like it would be worth it, and it was. This was a near-excellent RX here (SINPO 55545, just a bit of rapid weak fade) considering the frequency and time of day. I won't tip my hand as to programming, that is the prize worthy of the hunt, if so inclined. Basically, I figure anyone in the Eastern US/Can. has a good opportunity, and the W Coasters might consider it a good challenge.

Perhaps that was critical hour time? Or did you receive it all night?

http://radio-locator.com/info/KOLM-AM indicates critical hour power as 10KW.

Re: Snow on ground enhances AM daytime skip today

ferrite61 <dxrx@...>

It does, as you state. If you were to have the ground staked into the Earth, say 6-8 feet, there is the considerations of "wet" vs. "dry" ground. Moist soil is a better (ground) conductor. Desert soils are generally poor.

There are quite a few religious stations, several to your S or SE on 1390 listed in Radio Locator, and a Family Radio station on 1380, KQKD in Redfield SD. Family Radio is playing mostly Christmas songs with some religious talk at this time.
