Great job on the Ultralight Longwave DX-- even with the low-scoring FSL's :-) When you were listening I was testing out the new 8" (1700 point) LW DXpedition FSL this morning, and also came away with the 153 and 279 Rossii's, plus a couple of fair Alaskan beacons (other than 530-ADK, which is hopeless here because of a three TIS station maze). 233 ALJ Johnstone Island, AK (1000w) 394 RWO Kodiak, AK (1000w, CW ID's w/TWEB weather) http://www.mediafire.com/?8g94eu52599kod7 73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) PL-380 + 8" Longwave FSL http://www.mediafire.com/i/?ylwafuea34ax5cm

Our First Year at Bristol's Hope, Newfoundland
Allen Willie
Hello To All,
It has been exactly one year ago today Monday April 2 since we moved to our new residence here in Bristol's Hope. Thought we would share with you our current totals of what both Dianne and I have heard during the past year using the Ultralight Radios here in "The Hope". It has been a major bonus in moving here radio reception wise compared to the city with the added bonus of escaping all that city interference, static and noise. Dianne is looking forward in the coming year in enjoying more time at the dials than previously. We are anxiously awaiting warmer weather so we can DX at Bristol Cove Lookout high above the Atlantic during the days and months ahead as well. IMHO the super-replacement DSP AM/SW/FM will be mechanically tuned without a digital display, having a standard Class AB speaker output. Digital displays are creating shielding problems that are not/can not be solved. Take a R-911 and put the DSP chip in it, replacing a lot of hardware, keeping the audio amp for the speaker. Call it a D-911. Paul S. in CT

Jay this rings very true. I have recently looked at the specs of the newer SI chips, and they are showing a very stubby ferrite rod as being acceptable. Its about consumers: not enthusiasts.

Thank for your reply. The radio is specified as a FM Stereo-MW-SW DSP receiver. Orders may be made at website http://tecsunradio.com based in Kwangchow (Canton) China. Contact person is Erin via hch@.... The complete package incl. international shipping is below US$95.00 and arrived in 2 weeks from date of order. I must agreed with Jay it's a feature-rich radio with MP3 player and recording function built-in. According to Degen, this product is milestone in 112X series but not to replace the DE1103 which they claimed to have sold over 300,000 units worldwide. They also cited difficulties in getting components that may run out later for DE1103 and the software interface for design modern receiver like DE1128. The limitation of MW could be due to the size of the radio to house the ferrite antenna as in DE1126. SW tuning is also limited at 5KHz internal covering from 13m to 120m unlike Tecsun PL210 with full band coverage from 522-29999KHz As mentioned earlier, the outstanding feature of this handy product is it's connectivity with computer eanble MP3 songs and new podcasts to be downloaded directly and ready on the go... The receiver is still its primary function but with many more features now! mkang

Given that this only has chinese text and non-DX MW performance, it wouldn't surprise me if it was intended for domestic use of the local commissar's radio station, not unlike what happened in Germany in the 1930's

Paul I guess Paul many of us DE1103 owners are waiting patiently for the "super replacement" that right now never seems to come !!! Jay <jaypolicow@...>
One thing I have difficulty with is their statement that the DE1128 is a "milestone product after DE1103", yet its AM is "barely adequate" and the FM/SW are described as "sufficient". The DE-1103/KA-1103/E5/G5 group of radios have excellent reception for their size/price range and so far I see no heir apparent...it seems that the persuit of features is of far greater concern than basic performance.

I received a new Tecsun PL606 on Wednesday. I purchased it from ebay seller kaito-electronics-inc for $49 shipped, via a traditional auction. Yup, I saved 99 cents over Buy It Now, :) The seller ships from California and not China. Paid last Friday, he shipped Monday and I received it Wednesday. FAST! Man this radio is sensitive!Man do I miss direct tuning! Lol. Yup, it has some quirks but the radio has good sensitivity. In the ten minutes I listened, I managed to add a new one to the ULR book - WJLS 560 WV. Not too bad a start. Nothing on LW but that was expected, being barefoot. I will work at learning its operation, such as trying to keep it in fast tuning mode, keeping the light on and so on. 73

Thank you very much for posting the detailed information about the new DE1128 receiver. It sounds very interesting. Although the LCD language is not in English and the MW band tuning steps are fixed at 9 kHz, if the new radio has FM sensitivity and selectivity similar to (or superior to) the Tecsun Si4734 DSP chip radios (PL-300WT, PL-310, PL-380 and PL-606), I would be very interested in ordering a sample DE1128 to test out (if you can suggest an ordering source in China or Hong Kong). Our Ultralight radio enthusiast group has many FM-DXers, and they would probably be interested in its performance compared to the Tecsun DSP models. A translation sheet for the Chinese characters (to English) can be probably be made up here, if the radio's FM-DXing performance is excellent. 73 and Thanks, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA)
