Moratorium on Ultralight Awards and Firsts/Records until December 1
John H. Bryant <bjohnorcas@...>
As most of you know, my wife and I are fortunate enough in our retirement to migrate between our long-time home in Oklahoma for winters and springs and our island cottage just south of Vancouver, BC, for the summer and fall of each year. Its that time again... we must head for the South Prairie a week from today. Its a week of packing, a week on the road and a week of settling in (and Thanksgiving in the USA.)
So, I'll be doing the graphics on some well-deserved Ultralight awards today, publishing the latest Firsts and Records and then closing those files until December 1. You may still submit Awards requests to Rob Ross as usual; he will review them and then keep a file for me until I get settled. If you could hold formal submittals for Firsts and Records until December 1, I'd really appreciate it! John Bryant

Re: New Domestic Station Added
Kirk Allen <kirk74601@...>
Hi Allen,
Very nice logging of KCJJ. That X band is interesting sometimes. The only stations I've been able to ID on that freq were, KCJJ, KKGM (Ft. Worth, TX) and KRND (Fox Farm, WY) I've yet to lof anything on 1610. The closest I came to that was one night I heard some SP lang pgm'g there, but it was just too weak to hear enough to count as a new station. I always look forward to your input and your loggings. I suppose I kind of vicariously get excited about you guys' TA's and TP's. Very interesting that you and I were probably listening to CBK that morning when they were airing a R. Australia pgm! What are the chances of that!? The one and only time I've experienced TA's and TP's was one year probably in the late 80's when I went down to JB's house for a DXpedition. (We did a lot of those back then) John had planned and made arrangements to put up a 2000' Beverage...although I'm not positive, I do believe it was unterminated. Three of us erected that bad boy the afternoon before we started getting serious. for the TA's and in the morning for the TP's. Wow. What a thrill that was. Gotta run, Okla State Football is coming up on the tube real soon. 73 and best of DX to you, Kirk Allen

2008 Fall Follies RESULTS ANNOUNCED
John H. Bryant <bjohnorcas@...>
The Ultralight Contest Committee has compiled the results from each of
the six contests in the Fall Follies. The complete Final Report has
been posted in the Ultralight Files area of dxer.ca. The Final
Report contains all loggings (and some were quite spectacular) of the
four contests related to the "five most distant" stations as
well as a selection of the best loggings from the rather massive
"Total Stations Heard" contests. The loggings themselves
are quite interesting and worth a trip to dxer.ca.

Re: JOUB audible in Oklahoma

Dennis:
Sadly conditions have deteriorated since Thursday morning. This morning there was little sign of JOUB 774, only a het around local sunrise. Also noticed a het on 828 kHz. Reception seemed to favor the southern states and Mexico this morning. The exceptions were CKRM 620, Regina, and CJGX 940, Yorkton, both with decent signals. I hope things improve in the next day or so. Best of DX. Richard Allen, 36°22'51"N / 97°26'35" W (near Perry OK)

Ledbetter Beach in Santa Barbara a couple of hours before sunrise. I'll have my Sony 2010 and Select-a-Tenna as a spotter and DT-400W and SRF-39FP in case conditions are good enough that a stock ultralight is all that's needed. Ledbetter Beach looks like this: Ledbetter Beach: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3e/Leadbetter_beach.jpg That photo tells the story of why it's so freaking expensive to live here. My 1st TRANS-ATLANTIC on an ULTRALIGHT!!! 1134 Khz Hrvatksi Radio CROATIA!!!
Hi Guys:
Well....it is with Great pleasure that I announce I have Logged my FIRST Trans-Atlantic AM BCB Station on an Ultralight Radio this evening. From 1915 to 1948 EST I had a Nice reception of Hrvatski Radio from ZADAR CROATIA on 1134 Khz. This was logged on my Brand New ETON E-100 SLIDER Ultralight that just arrived in the mail earlier this afternoon from the West Coast Modification Team of Steve Ratzlaff and John Bryant with some Coaching from Gary Debock. I saw on the Reflectors that this was a good evening for Trans-Atlantics...so I thought what better time to try it out....the first place I looked was 1134 Khz...as I have heard this before on the BIG Radios , and knew it does a good job into Ontario when the band is good. So...thanks to the efforts of the above mentioned DX'ers who were instrumental in me obtaining this Ultralight DX Monster Machine...I present my logging...... ******************************************************************************************************** 1134 Hrvatski Radio Zadar, CROATIA Nov/07/08 1915-1948 EST Croatian PR-GOOD Male and Female in Slavic Language at tune in presumed Croatian language. Deep Fades but Real Nice Peaks in Audio. Talk from 1915-1922. Mention of "Hrvatski" by Female at 1922. 2 males Spoke at 1926-27. Instrumental Music @ 1927-1929. 2 males spoke again @ 1929- 1930. Another Mention of "Hrvatski" at 1930. Into POP Music with male Vocals @ 1932-1934. Still in @ 1945-1948. Female with Croatian Vocals/Music. Signal peaking at 4 out of 5 on the E-100's Meter!!! Is this the Farthest WEST in North America for a Trans-Atlantic on an Ultralight???? --- Nice going ,Kirk.I once heard the St.Petersburg station on 620
back in Oklahoma. At the time their call sign was WSUN if i recall correctly. Here in the Knoxville,Tn area we have WRJZ in Knoxville on 620.However, their signal seems weaker at night and i am not sure they are a 24/7 station. They air Christian talk and preaching. In the evening,it might be possible to log something else on that frequency here. Re: DXing East Asia in the Heartland
bbwrwy
I've found JOUB 774 has long been the easiest of all trans-oceanic
stations to receive here at my rural QTH. I agree with Gary, from my experience November is the best month for hearing Japanese stations, followed closely by December. Listen from around 1000 UTC until past your local sunrise. My log book shows the earliest I've ever heard the station was 0841 UTC on 11-22-86. Much is dependent on your local QRM situation. And, expect long fades. Yesterday (11-6-08) was my best reception of JOUB ever, and hopefully that will improve in the coming weeks. But this morning nothing more than a trace of a het, around 1100 UTC, was audible. I'll admit surprise when I heard JOUB on a SRF-T615 on 9/30/08. Since then I've heard the station several times, once on a barefoot, factory aligned E100. Good luck. Richard Allen, 36°22'51"N / 97°26'35" W (near Perry OK)
