NEW SONY SRF-T615 $95.00 ON eBay
normwclark <ultralightdx@...>
Hi, Norm from Monmouth, OR here: I've been corresponding for several
weeks with a Japanese seller on eBay to bring the DXing community a good price on the Sony SRF-T615. Well, Kouei Trading did it this afternoon by offering two NEW IN BOX T615's for sale, Buy it Now, (I immediately purchased one for myself) for $95.00 each plus $18.00 shipping. If interested, check it out with this Item number: 370092380636, or do a search by item title. He also has two NIB SONY ICF-EX5 AM/FM radios for sale, $155.00 each plus $38.00 shipping. These are both excellent receivers at excellent prices and the SRF-T615 is highly rated by the experts on DXer.ca and with the Ultralight MW Radio DXers on Yahoo. 73 and happy shopping, Norm Clark

1st, thanks for the quick and numerous responses. at the moment i'm
setting up a new laptop computer, my priority at the moment. but in the next couple days i'll start reading what was suggested. looks fun. theres a couple fellows who takes great joy in these little rigs in the odxa group. the radio looks fun. logging, i probably won't do much with that. i do some homebrewing and am too lazy to lable my bottles, so keeping logs isn't in my psychie. playing with toys is. reminds me of when i was a kid. i had a westinghouse am i got for christmas and would stay up late most nights tuning around, amazed at the cities i got here in southern michigan. i love shortwave, but get the same kick picking up iowa. the grundig mini, i actually got 2. bought one when i bought my satillite 800 years back. then in registering the radio, i won a 2nd one for visiting the site. free radio, can't top that! last... gotta update my info at the arrl. i haven't used voyager internet in many years, not sure it even exists. but thanks for trying. i can be reached at banjojim@.... thanks again everybody, i look forweard to a new radio thats not expensive! jim n8rpi --- In ultralightdx@..., "Tim Davisson" <kd8gz@...> wrote: QRZ.com (your ham calls...the voyager.net address)...but it bounced backI had to call 3 K-Mart locations...first 2 were sold out...finallygot one...now own a 2nd, and might likely buy a 3rd (for $15, why not?Hi, hi!).

Re: Congratulations Richard on JOUB 774 heard in Oklahoma on barefoot SRF-T615 !
bbwrwy
Thanks everyone for the kind words. I mention that when I was an
active DXer in 1980's, JOUB the easiest trans-oceanic station to hear here. At no time did I used anything more than an amplified ferrite loop antenna. I may simply live in the right place for hearing JOUB. Hearing European medium wave stations has always been a greater challenge. I did post a bit of the JOUB audio from this morning under with the name "081001_1054_JOUB774_T615_000c.mp3" in the files section. Again, thanks everybody. Best wishes for good DX tonight. Re: NEW SONY SRF-T615 $95.00 ON eBay
Hello Norm,
This Sony SRF-T615 seems to have more price
changes than Washington Mutual Bank stock recently. While checking eBay
just now, all I found was the listing from "joynetcafe," which has raised
their price to $115 plus $20 shipping. On the other hand, Audio Cubes 2
has "lowered" their price from the outrageous $158 pus $20 shipping to the
merely obnoxious $149 plus $20 shipping. If you guys have a friend in
Japan, you can probably get it for $70 plus shipping.
Is it worth the price, which borders on
extortion? Probably, from what its owners say about it.

loggings such as these. Just shows you don't need big antennas and expensive radios to log TAs or TPs. I just received my T615 and so far am very impressed with it. 73- Gary

2008 Fall Follies Rules + FAQ Are Now Posted
John H. Bryant <bjohnorcas@...>
Friends,
The 2008 Fall Follies Ultralight Contestant Package has just been posted to our official Files Area on dxer.ca. There have been a few changes in this Fall's contest, so reading the Rules carefully would be a good idea. There are still three contests in each of two Receiver Classes (Barefoot and Unlimited) and two of the three contests in each Class are open to DXers world-wide. Once again this fall, there will be no prizes to the top-scorers, but suitable-for-framing Certificates and Unlimited (or Barefoot) fun for all who participate. If you have any questions or concerns that are not covered in the FAQ, please contact John Bryant (Rules) at bjohnorcas@... or Kevin Schanilec (Ultralight Radios) at satya@... The dates are October 24 to November 3rd, so get your favorite Ultralight well lubricated, warmed up and be ready for the call "Drivers, START YOUR ULTRALIGHTS!"

JOUB 774 heard in Oklahoma on barefoot SRF-T615
bbwrwy
For the past two mornings I've heard JOUB 774 kHz using only a
barefoot SRF-T615. It was first heard with a heterodyne of varying levels at 1018-1031 UTC yesterday. Then a man speaking in Japanese fading in and out from 1031 until about 1046 UTC when it finally faded under the sideband of XEACH 770. This morning it was again heard fading in and out of XEACH's sideband from 1053 to 1127 GMT. I was surprise how easy JOUB was to receive such a tiny set at approximately 9700 kilometers (6027 miles). I also had a trace of a het on 594 kHz, but the QRM from KCSJ 590 was too strong. I think this proves my theory trans-oceanic reception is possible in the center of North America on a barefoot ULR, at least one as sensitive as the SRF-T615. It was something I was never able to do with an ICF-2010. It looks like I choose the right time to return to medium wave DXing. Richard Allen, 36°22'51"N/97°25'36"W

Modified E100 heard 774 Japan TP today from NE Oregon
Steve Ratzlaff <steveratz@...>
Hi,
I'm a recent subscriber to the list. I'm not much of a
domestic MW DXer but like to try for TPs from my inland NE Oregon location. I do
hear the occasional signal with my tabletop receivers. I recently obtained an
E100 and have just done the narrow filter mod and added an external antenna
connector. Connected to my outside longwire antenna with a pot adjusted to stop
the overloading, 774 Japan was heard this morning on the E100. I've uploaded an
audio clip to the Files area, labeled "774 Japan on E100". It's not very good
but has several seconds of clear JJ audio. Best results with the narrow filter
are by off-tuning up or down 1 kHz; in this case I was tuned to
773.
Regards,
Steve Ratzlaff
NE Oregon

They somewhat regularly run various specials, sometimes including free shipping on all purchases. I got two refurbs for $19.98 delivered that way. New Modified E100 TP Loggings; Welcome to Steve
Hello Guys,
First of all, welcome to Steve Ratzlaff in Elgin,
Oregon-- and congratulations on your first Ultralight TP (JOUB-774).
Steve is a very highly qualified technician and ham QRP enthusiast ,
and has been one of the regular TP chasers here on the west coast for many
years.
This morning was fairly decent on the modified
E100 here, with Vietnam-675 again showing up around 1345 (recorded for language
ID), and a presumed North Korea-684 (because of the corny ancient music and
typical yelling announcer). So the west coast Ultralight TP chasers are
also having fun this season (not just the heavy hitters in Newfoundland and
Northern Ireland :>)

Rick Pavelko
Hey Jim-
I just joined the group not too long ago myself. Welcome aboard! I also have a mini 100. It has good selectivity, but the nulling and sensitivity of the srf59 beat it. I just picked up an srf59 on Sunday and have 40 out-of state stations logged already. It's a lot of fun! Rick
