Hello Stephan and Farmerik,

Thanks for sharing impressions of your purchase of the PL-310 from HK Equipment, Richard. I hope you will enjoy lots of exciting DX with your new radio.

In answer to your question, Stephan, there haven't been any recent PL-310 purchasers reporting changes in SI Firmware/Hardware. The PL-310 apparently still has the original specifications and performance, as reported in October. Although it includes a loopstick slightly longer and more sensitive (on AM and LW) than that of the PL-380, the "soft mute" function in the PL-310 is more of an irritant than in the PL-380, where the "soft mute" threshold level has been reduced.

Both models have superb 1 kHz DSP filtering, and multiple digital tuning methods. If you plan to use external antennas or chase 9 kHz-split DX, though, the PL-380 may be the better choice because of its ability to tune 1 kHz farther away from domestic splatter without a great drop-off in the DX station's signal quality (due to the "soft mute" function engaging). This can make a big difference in the reception of the weaker TA's or TP's adjacent to domestic stations.

Hello Farmerik!

Does anybody know if the newer PL 310 devices come now with the updated SI Firmware/Hardware?

I would like to know because I have to place an order for some of the Tecsun devices soon and I'm wondering if its better to buy the 310 or the 380 models? I personally like the 310 more, but if it is still with the older Chip Revision I might stay at the 380's .

I decided to give an order to HKequipment for my PL-310. I was attracted to the slightly lower total price with shipping, than some Ebay Stores, and more impressed by it coming with SANYO Enloop slow self discharging batteries, which I really like for my multitude of small radios and LED lights, because they do not run dead with occasional use, and with hundreds of radio and dozens of small LED lamps and flashlights, it is my biggest annoyance of using rechargeable cells.
The SANYO AA cells are clearly marked as being made in Japan, as they should be. The label is printed slightly different that other Enloop cells I have purchased recently though. They arrived fully charged which is normal, and work fine in the radio. They show a full charge on the meter in the PL-310's display too.
I placed my order on March 24th, and the radio arrived today, April 6th on the East coast of the USA. It was shipped in a padded mailer, with 5 or 6 layers of thin bubble wrap, each taped securely, around the box, and more inside too.
So I have no complaints at all. - FARMERIK
