Re: PL - 310 via HKequipment-FARMERIK
Hello Stephan and Farmerik,
Thanks for sharing impressions of your purchase of the PL-310 from HK
Equipment, Richard. I hope you will enjoy lots of exciting DX with your new
radio.
In answer to your question, Stephan, there haven't been any recent PL-310
purchasers reporting changes in SI Firmware/Hardware. The PL-310 apparently
still has the original specifications and performance, as reported in October.
Although it includes a loopstick slightly longer and more sensitive (on AM and
LW) than that of the PL-380, the "soft mute" function in the PL-310 is more
of an irritant than in the PL-380, where the "soft mute" threshold level
has been reduced.
Both models have superb 1 kHz DSP filtering, and multiple digital
tuning methods. If you plan to use external antennas or chase 9 kHz-split
DX, though, the PL-380 may be the better choice because of its ability to tune 1
kHz farther away from domestic splatter without a great drop-off
in the DX station's signal quality (due to the "soft mute" function
engaging). This can make a big difference in the reception of the weaker TA's or
TP's adjacent to domestic stations.
