Thanks to all who have expressed interest in the simple $5 modification to the Tecsun PL-380 model, which significantly increases AM sensitivity across the 530-1700 kHz spectrum, and provides a great boost on the LW frequencies as a bonus. Three such test models have been constructed and tested (two here, and one by Steve Ratzlaff). 

 

Early this morning I had the chance to record a relative signal test on the LW beacon 368-SX, using both the stock PL-380, and the "Stealth Mod" PL--380. The first 20 seconds are using the stock PL-380, and the second 20 seconds are using the "Stealth Mod" PL-380: http://www.mediafire.com/?qnqmzmo32m3

 

The results are pretty astonishing, for this simple $5 mod to replace the stock loopstick Chinese Litz wire with higher quality 40/44 wire.
