Yeah, I am sure there is a signal strength threshold for detection. It may be pretty high so they insure you get only "good" listenable results. At times of day when signals are in and out regularly... (early evening through early morning), well it is easy to see why results would vary considerably. I agree, trying ETM in the middle of the day, without moving the receiver much or at all, would give you a much better idea of how well the feature works on that radio. The only times I have ever used ETM was a few times when travelling, and only to get a few strong stations to check out local news and weather. I don't find it to be much good for anything else.
